Anyone else experiencing a dry spell on eBay?

tommy44tommy44 Posts: 2,320 ✭✭✭✭✭

I haven't had a sale on eBay since March 6th. I can't remember going this long without a sale since I started selling there in November of 1997. I don't have anything listed that anyone actually needs, just miscellaneous small inexpensive "collectibles" and a few coins, no store, about 120 to 180 items for sale at any one time depending on how much effort I want to put in but still usually have 6 to 12 sales a week.

Anyone else experiencing a slow down?

I have the opposite. Stuff is flying out of my store. Some items that were dormant for months have been moving. Lots of traffic, views, watchers, sales, and offers.

I lose money on everything I sell but make up for it in volume.

    Do you have a store?

My sales had literally doubled since COVID hit last March, sold twice as much as the previous year then all of a sudden zippo. I don't have a store and I am not signed up for managed payments. Thought that might have something to do with my experience so checked in here to see what others have to say.

it is good to have BIN and auctions. search results algorithms at ebay have always been curious.

with managed payments, it states somewhere in the language directly that those not in it may experience listings that do not show up in search results.

i don't know your images/info/history/inventory etc but i recommend having more than one account to test out variations to see how results differ and they differ a lot in my experience. a lot of reasons why. direct and indirect.

if you know some trustworthy people that sell on ebay, you could ask them to use some images from a few of your listings to see if they sell and either ship to them or drop-ship directly to the customer. there may be some issues with using the tracking number 2x and/or powerseller stats etc but getting creative but safe may be the solution.

if you do auctions with reserves, you can have the listings automatically list up to 8x w/o tapping your monthly listing amount. the option is just right below the pricing boxes when you are working on the listings in edit mode.

it is also a good idea to have a few items listed each week. if you have a few extra listing quantity, try ending and restarting some items w/o watchers.

    hope it helps.

Stuff is flying. I think too much. LOL. They put a hold on my managed payments to "verify" something.

If you have more volume of losses wouldn’t that mean you lose more? Or did I miss read what you said? Just curious.

If I have something worth $10 but I bought it for $8, I would sell it for $9. Other folks would sell for $10 but wouldn’t get as many sales. Although I’m “losing” $1, I make up for it by selling more, at the lower amount.

I think that sums it up.... I think.

Last three months sales are off the charts. I had been running 10-15 items a night, but am at a stand still point for a few days, waiting for coins to come back from the services, also, got a few more old holder goodies I sprinkle in at times, but need to move a few of the newer stuff coming back first as great stuff always sells.

Sales have been brisk for the last week or so. The previous few weeks were very slow. I only have a few numismatic items listed and they've been stagnant for awhile. No offers or even inquiries. I have them listed right around fair market value and am going to wait it out. No need to dump anything.

    About 300 numismatic items listed.

This month has been unusually tough (very slow) while last month good. Doesn’t make sense. Perhaps people’s outlook about their financial future in the tank. Went on managed payments in Feb. seemed to be doing good but then this awful month. Did buy a nice graded world banknote PCGS66 for $14 which is less than grading cost.

It’s very depressing. Feel like am in some rigged simulation. Binge watching season 4 of Animal Kingdom (California crime family - great show) helps.

I think with the current situation people holding on to their money or simply don’t have any.

I am in a similar spot.
Last month up over 100% over previous year, so far this month just up 7% (and March 2020 wasn't a good month, so being up isn't that big of a deal.)

Extremely busy on and off eBay.

Expect to get even busier any minute, got your check yet?

Although I'm taking a break from selling right now, for me the last couple of months have been crazy.
I'm not a big seller but I sold almost everything and got prices way over what I expected.

For example, one of my auctions for an 1879-CC GSA bid form set (two envelopes, information card and bid form) realized over $800!

I think people were bored from being cooped up inside (winter and covid).

Successful BST: dmwjr, ike126, bajjerfan, morganman94, sonoradesertrat, 12voltman, duiguy, gsaguy, gsa1fan, martin, coinfame, zas107, bothuwui, gerard, kccoin, jtwitten, robcool, coinscoins, mountain_goat, and a few more.

Sold alot of common, raw Lincolns I broke from a set the past two weeks.

    Baseball cards do okay.

Small sales but nice for cash flow.

BST: KindaNewish (3/21/21), WQuarterFreddie (3/30/21), Meltdown (4/6/21), DBSTrader2 (5/5/21) AKA- unclemonkey on Blow Out

turning money is almost always a good thing. never know what may be around the corner and if you have cash, you can get it. hold out for more sometimes costs more than it gets ya.

i'm in the boat with your - "Although I’m “losing” $1, I make up for it by selling more, at the lower amount. "

I haven’t sold anything there for ages, but I haven’t tried either.

It goes in spurts. Won't sell a coin for 5-7 days then sell 2 or 3 the same day.
Overall been pretty happy with everything.
