PCGS 1895 $20 MS63PL - Wow!

I was watching this auction thinking I might place a bid at around $4300 or $4500 and then, BAM, it got bid up to over $6K in the last few minutes. I wonder if this is a one-off or the start of a trend...

That PL look is outstanding. I think that makes it special enough to someone with deep pockets.

It says, finest known PL and admittedly it looks pretty awesome.

It is the finest PL 1895 $20 designated by PCGS. There have been 69 of this date designated PL or DPL by NGC over the last 18 years including 8 in MS63 PL and 2 in MS64 PL. I agree that this 1895 MS63 looks very nice. I would rather have it than a non-PL MS64 example.

I wonder how much the NuTilt images helped with the sale.

Very pretty example. Proof/PL gold sure is pricey.

If you do, send it to David Lawrence so they can do NuTilt on it!

I was offered an 1895-P $20 in 63 PL at a Syracuse ONA show in the 1990s. It was a better coin that the one shown. The fields were much cleaner. The asking price was $450. I kicked myself for not buying it for years afterwards, but I was a broke graduate student at the time.

    Nutilt is overkill.

20 or more years ago these did not carry such a big premium and PCGS did not do pl on gold business strikes.

Nearly the eye appeal of a proof at a fraction of the cost.

I was lucky enough to acquire several last year. Here is one of my favorites. This is a PCGS 62 CAC.

Agree, the tilt images are a PITA.

Way too much chatter for my taste, even if PL.

I don't like the nutilt either. I think it would be much better if they slowed down the rotation speed.
