My first private treaty, and a mini-completion: Cents of 1839

I've always thought the phrase "private treaty" sounded way too fancy, but if the shoe fits . . .
In my case, I was fortunate to work out a deal for an 1839 head of '38 large cent with a gracious member who posts here as "coinnut". As I posted recently, I'm working on an 1839 mint set with varieties that is likely impossible to complete due to a certain half dollar. But at least I've managed to get all five major cent varieties from this interesting transition year: https://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/mysetregistry/album/showcase/6612 .

Cool! I mean its possible if your refering to the 1839O but expensive, not sure about varietys tho.
Its the 1839 small letters variety that has me worried. According to CoinFacts the total population may be as many as 50, but that may be based on an optimistic hunch that more coins will turn up as more people search for them. AFAIK only a dozen or so have been found so far, sort of putting it into 1804 dollar territory and way out of my league.

I'm frustrated too. I thought that I had created a Showcase that I could easily link to, but apparently I have no idea what I'm doing. Can't find any instructions, either. I can see it when I'm signed in, but apparently its just a private thing to be used only for editing. ?????

Actually, now that I think about it my mother took me to a coin show about 50 years ago, and she encouraged me to haggle over the price of some Lincoln cents that I liked. I suppose that also might count as a private treaty.

I agree about the “private treaty” thing. It sounds like you have to smoke a peace pipe or sign in blood.

1839 is my favorite year. A lot of changes that year.
Same here. Actually the whole transitional period from 1836-1841 has a lot of interesting varieties, but ‘39 is definitely my favorite, especially for the large cents. I posted mine a few years back.... the 39/6 was the toughie.

I notice there are quite a few 39/6's on the market right now, but none above VF35. The 39/8 that I got from coinnut was the cent I had to wait for.> @bidask said:
