Ugh.
I called to switch and felt like a hostage.
I finally clicked on the "Get Started" link and it said the server is down.
The guy on the phone suddenly could not help me at all.
So Lame

Couldn't have happened to a nicer person as the forum eBay posterchild

Oops meant to say sorry to hear with all sincerity!

I think this is the first semi-negative thing I've ever heard you say about ebay! But seriously, hope it gets resolved soon for you.
I kept the guy on the speakerphone for 40 minutes just to mess with him.
I would not say bye. It took him 10 minutes to find a way to hang up on me and finally did.
eBay Support: I'm sorry, Sir, there's nothing I can do for you at this time.
ErrorsOnCoins: And how does that make you feel?
What is the absolute worst thing an IT guy can tell you?
"Change Your Browser"
I hate that response. I am on Apple with Safri forever. I will not ever use another browser other than apple, it is a BS excuse for the IT guy to say that.
Like a Hostage
I am paying for a service (premium store) that I can not use.
If the server is down it's not a browser issue. Front line eBay techs are not always well versed. You can always escalate.

I did, I asked to talk with the CEO
I try really hard to be nice to those reps, and very often they're great. Every once in a while they get me on a bad day and are trying to justify a ridiculous position eBay is taking and I go down an annoying path (like when they justify why a buyer can file a SNAD--and I have to pay for it--when mentioning a problem that is, verbatim, in the description, and then I start down the path of I should buy one of that guy's items just so I can return it citing the description because they said there's nothing wrong with that) and you can tell how much they hate me. On a select very few of those occasions, they've worked REALLY hard to find a way to end the call, and I must admit, that level of effort to get me to go away did make me feel better.
You must be doing something wrong...... we all know ebay is perfect.
Ebay is a perfect platform for a small business for sure.
Ebay customer service has been horrible ever since the Paypal split.
Just wait till you get on Managed Payments, you are going to see nonpaying buyers like you've never seen before.
They are using the "excuse" I can't pay with the credit card in my eBay wallet please cancel my order.
.
Yep, had that happen last week.
I’m sure others who needed customer service and had to wait longer, appreciated that.
Mark Feld* of Heritage Auctions*Unless otherwise noted, my posts here represent my personal opinions.
He did tell me he sent (or requested) an email be sent to me to sign up and I was kinda waiting. I also reloaded the get started link a few times while I was waiting and then perhaps this rep could have helped me.
Of course, I still have not received an email like he said he would send.
Nor has the supervisor I requested call me back.
Nor has the CEO as I requested call me back.
I won a couple lots in auctions that closed on January 27. I tried to pay right away and got this message -> One or more sellers can't accept payments right now. Contact the sellers for help. I did and they said they were having problems getting the managed payments set up. They said that eBay told them next week it would be working. It wasn't and then he said eBay told him February 22 to 26. It still did not work. They had to relist the coins for payment to go through and did it March 1. They listed some other coins and I put lowball bids in and tried manually sniping. When I bid, it said not accepting bids at this time. I hope it goes better for you.
eBay is the perfect platform for the small business owner who likes getting bent over without first being kissed. eBay customer service has been bad since they outsourced it to the Philippines.
I won't miss not selling on that platform!
Paypal should just buy eBay.

I got to say the split from PayPal gives me pause. The old system worked so well but as typical in business, if it ain’t broke strip it for parts and make 10% more off one of them while dooming the rest

The tech is not suggesting that you permanently change your default browser. If another browser works, the tech can focus on issues with the browser you are using.
I haven't had a single cancellation since the switch and I've sold over 60 items in the last 2 weeks.

You must be lucky! I've had at least two cancelation requests per week and 1 just don't pay per week in the month I've been on managed payments as opposed to about one either cancelation or no pay per quarter with PayPal.
If the server is indeed down, then obviously it won't make a difference. However, in general it is not a BS excuse. Customers can have all sort of plugins or extensions or settings that can cause conflicts. A different browser can help troubleshoot this.
My father-in-law was suddenly having all sort of issues with multiple websites on a particular browser. Turns out he read about browser security settings you can change and followed very draconian lock-down measures resulting in the issues.
I've only heard this tech advise phrased more as "try a different browser" as a troubleshooting technique. Making a permanent "Change your browser" would be unusual advice especially as it hasn't been established that it makes any difference yet.
LOL. If I'm lucky, it's the first time. YMMV

I played that game often. Before I finally moved on as a seller. Still the greatest coin shop for a buyer on planet earth. RGD!

Wooooha! Did someone just say it's officially "TACO™" Tuesday????
Happens all the time with my students. Sometimes an update to a browser results in some content not being visible to them. Simplest diagnostic is to try a different browser or, in some cases, a different computer.

The link works now and asked for call back as I do not know how to answer the first question which I think is business, then the second question I have no idea how they want me to answer.
waiting for a call, this should be fun. Bong ready
Once you graduated to a PayPal business account I think you automatically graduated to an eBay business account. That's what happened to me.

Apparently, I just signed up and have to wait a few days for everything to verify.
verify?
Just got sent an email from ebay saying they can't verify my bank account I have had 30 plus years.
so much to look forward to...
Ebay is gaining quite the boost to their earnings from this move if users don't bail. Just wait until they start turning the screws down the road.
Happened to me too.
There are two ways to fix it:
1) Get an online bank account such as Chime or something else on their list of banks
2) Sit on the phone with somebody from their IT department and tell them what they need to do. Their software was pointing to the banks public website instead of the customer website and they didn't know how to handle the two step verification.
I was able to fix it by uploading a bank statement with the transaction amounts and balances redacted.
PayPal shouldn't buy Ebay! It's a broken platform for the individual small seller but it would be awesome if they started their own business to compete against Ebay!
Surprised to hear you complain about eBay. You’ve always been their number 1 fan.
lmfao
They cut your rates and you do nothing but complain that some day in the future they might raise them.

And when it costs more than eBay...???
Everyone thinks eBay is so flawed and yet NO ONE has managed to build a competitor to them in 20+ years.
Y'all should be so "broken"

My transition was seamless with not a single phone call to anyone.

I wonder if it's the difference in how you are selling. For instance, if you sell as a "Buy-it-Now" and check the option to Require immediate payment with Buy It Now, then that would eliminate the buyers who later claim they can't pay etc...
If you list as an Auction or Buy-it-Now but you send them a lower offer, then you have to wait for the buyer to pay, and that's where you get the "can't pay, cancel the order shenanigans..."
I have mostly been running BIN but I do not require immediate payment. I have also been daily sending offers to watchers on things that I have room on as I've been trying to clear inventory while the market is good.
I did have one customer who was having trouble checking out. He contacted me, we waited a day or so and then he checked out without difficulty.
I really don't see any reason why cancellations should have gone up. Any buyer can simply pay using their PayPal account through managed payments.
Maybe it's the opposite problem. Are the people having trouble requiring immediate payment leading to cancellations if there is a brief hiccup?
It is probably coincidental, but my sales have surged since I made the transition. And while the extra 1% of so in net proceeds is minor, it really does cheer me up as there are a lot of coins that I've only been making 3 or 4% net on, so it is a noticeable increase in net profits.

This is also how I was able to fix it, too.

That is correct! The immediate payment requirement is a great feature. 😎
So you're concluding that monopolies are flawless? Brilliant deduction. NOT!
By the way, ever heard of Etsy? You might want to compare a chart of their share price to that of eBay.
But we digress...
I just completed this. Thanks for the reminder! Ebay had sent me a few reminders that I've been ignoring. It took like 30 seconds to add my bank account.
I did not say that eBay is flawless. They are, however, still number one. And so, if PayPal really wanted to be in the eBay business - which they don't - they WOULD buy eBay not build a new platform from scratch.
eBay does far more things right than wrong.
Etsy has a niche. What's your point?

That’s the worst? How about you’ve been hacked?
I’m an Apple fan too but there are some sites that Safari doesn’t work well with.
Yahoo did quite well for a while, then eBay obtained dominance in part because of its protection policies. With all of eBay’s problems and policy changes, a well funded competitor probably could obtain a decent size market share.
Perhaps. But eBay doesn't get enough credit, in my opinion, for what it does right.
Amazon actually took a run at eBay with "Zshops" at one time and ended that experiment.
The thing about eBay and "competitors" is that I think people have this idea that there could be a lower cost competitor to eBay. Etsy, for example, is not cheaper than eBay. Shopify is not cheaper than eBay. Amazon is not cheaper than eBay. You might be able to create an eBay competitor, but it's not going to be cheaper to use unless you want to go the Facebook Marketplace route with no protections or services.
