What to do with them?
Digging a little further into inherited boxes of coins, I came across several tubes filled with wheat pennies and marked "Error". Looking at them I found several hundred wheat pennies with filled 9's, MM's, BIE's, filled letters, etc. There is one full tube marked "DD's and M/M's which I'll delve into a little closer, later, but what to do with the error coins. Checking Ebay I see they are selling for about $1.00 +/- each, but I don't have a Ebay sellers account and don't really want to mess with them. Most are from the 40's and 50's. I think my Grandfather pulled them out of the till when he totaled up the days receipts.
Is there a Young Numismatics site where I could maybe donate them to the kids? Maybe help initiate a little interest in the younger generation? We used to have the Kids mail us a self addressed, stamped envelope and we'd send them a coin if they put in a copy of their report card, but am not sure they even get report cards any more. Besides, There is no way some of MY report Cards could have even gotten me anything except the licking I got!
Maybe somebody has got a good idea for them?
I hope I put this on the right site this time.

Suggestions?
Bruce

I have the same 'situation'
When I buy error deals/collections from the public, there
are always some of those BIE, cracked skull die cracks,
minor filled dies, etc.
I have many hundreds and hundreds of those -
If they are BU, they might bring a premium on Ebay - if they're
circ, as you mentioned, find a young numismatist or beginning
collector, and give 'em to them to study and learn.
I'd like to give mine to a local coin club or high school coin club,
but there's not a lot of either taking place in the past year........
Spend them.
How would you like to add to your "collection?".....lol
With the COVID restrictions, the local coin clubs aren't even meeting anymore around here. Guess I could put them in an Airtight container, mark them "Do not open until 2175" and let my Great, Great grandkid get rich off of them! Just think about if they were mid 1800's error coins how much they'd be worth.

That might be the best solution of all! For someone to find a wheat cent in their change today is uncommon, but if they look closely they not only have a Wheat Penny, but a minor error Wheat Penny, and it might stimulate someone to start collecting. Lets face it, we need the younger generations to collect so we have a willing group of buyers in the future! Some of these Wheats I have are 75 or more, years old already.
The sad part of it is I remember the 50's very well, graduating High School in 1961.....Sigh!
Thanks!

wait for the end of covid and unload at a show for the kids.
you'll always have a chance to spend them. otoh, being wheats, you could also list them on ebay or bst as a lot.
Send them to Joey.
I'll send some to joey, read below!
I've been thinking it over all afternoon and I've come to a conclusion. These coins need to be in circulation, but since there are so many of them, I've decided to share the wealth with the rest of you! First, I'm going to sterilize the coins by dipping them in Denatured Alcohol even though I've had my COVID shots. Then any of you that would like to receive 20 - 25 (Depending how many respond) Minor error Wheat pennies to pass out at shows, give to local coin clubs, kids or just distribute in change send me your addresses and I'll send them out to you. I'll pay the postage and handling unless you want to contribute.
There are just too many to hand out here in Tucson and I don't get out much anyway so it would take me a long time to get rid of them and I just found about a 100 more of them. It'll take me awhile to get them processed and packaged so it won't be in the next couple of days, so don't spend them before you get them.....lol
If you're interested, my email address can be found on my PCGS site by clicking on my puppy Charlie, my Icon. if I get too many responses, I may have to let you know they are all gone, but I want everyone that gets them to get at least 20 of them to pass out. Only 1 person per city! Going to inundate the U.S.....lol
Fred, if you want rid of yours, send them over and I'll send them out too!
I already have addresses for some of you, and you should know who you are, so just tell me you're interested.

Several coin shows have YN programs which gives YN's coins. A good one is a tradition Whitman carried forward when they purchased the Baltimore show. The YN's got a handful of coins and it is well advertised.
That is a great idea.... send them to many members who can distribute them to YN's, clubs or giveaways at shows... That will get them out there and likely serve a good purpose for the hobby in general. Cheers, RickO
John, (Got the bug)
Will get some pennies out as soon as the padded envelopes get here. If anyone has names of coin clubs and addresses, send them. I need to get this organized before the materials get here! Anyone have the name of the Baltimore POC"s (Point of contacts) for example.
Find a YN that wants to start a coin dealer business.
Make sure that YN has excellent photographic skills especially closeup photography.
Sell the coins to the YN at 2 - 3 cent apiece.
Let the motivated YN sell for wild % gains on eBay while the whole time learning about coins, varieties, photography, and running a business.
There is probably a YN on this forum who would benefit from such a hoard of minor error coins.
I have taken several rolls(at different times) and passed them in change, just for the heck of it. I try to give out coins with dates but they are not valuable coins and I had so many rolls of them they were a pain storing. So, I stick 2 or 3 in my pocket all the time. I hope someone gets a kick out of seeing a coin over 100 years old in their pocket change.

I like the idea of handing them out in change. By getting you others as accessories to the crime, it spreads them out all over the U.S. A lot of people won'[t niotice, but some will and that's the idea.
Any youngun on this site that wants some of these coins, send address!

I am loving all the YN encouraging concepts mentioned.
I have a pile going that will be given to the ANA for YN activities/events when I am ready and the ANA is re-opened. They're an hour away or so.
Now I'll be contacting the Front Range Coin Club here in Colorado to get them some things too
An inspirational thread @Bruce7789 Thank you!!!

I think this webpage has the info you are seeking: https://expo.whitman.com/kids-korner/
Hey, thanks for that! It has the contact infor I was looking for!
As far as other comments about Kids, Love Kids....Baked, broiled, fried..etc.....Just kidding! Got to get them interested in something besides their phones, games and other electronic stimulus. Thanks everyone for the comments and the leads.

The ANA can pretty much find a good home for any coins you wish to donate. We have several YN programs that use world coins or world paper money, wheat cents, buffalo and older Jefferson nickels. We also help out Scout merit badge workshops all across the country. The one nice thing about ANA programs is that the kids always have to earn their coins by performing a specific numismatic task. We never just give coins away. The ANA believes that youngsters value coins more if they earn them.
I think that from now on, every time I build something, I will included a sealed "cornerstone" with similar coins of no real value today. I too, have several hundred that are just using up space in my safe.
