Wow, they even sent the coin to the winning bidder with an invoice in anticipation of final payment. Thems were the days. Peace Roy

I've quoted well-known past NY Dealer Lester Merkin before:

He told me back in the mid-70's, when we were talking about rarity, that:

"Sometimes the opportunity to buy a rare coin is rarer than the coin"

    Truer words never spoken.

Seems like you'd maybe have seen the coin before and know what you're bidding on.

In 1956 I was collecting coins from the proceeds of selling newspapers.... Ah the good old days of circulating silver. At that time, I did not know there were coin auctions (could not have participated anyway). Cheers, RickO

More times than not, my desire for a coin is often overshadowed by the lack of funds to acquire it...unless they accept on the "never-never" (lay-a-way).

using a system of payment in which part of the cost of something is paid immediately and then small regular payments are made until the debt is reduced to nothing

I would like to thank the writers of _The Andy Griffith Show _for bringing this term to my vocabulary.

That's the guy that wrote one of the books, 1955, on Cal Gold. He was the only one to write about, and attribute, the charms and tokens.
Boy, those were some bargain territorials he sold !
