Sounds like a cost control measure. My guess is maybe one or two per quarter of 5% that will probably be timed to increase revenue before quarterly earnings statements.
I have come to the conclusion after 20+ years on eBay that the company has been consistently mismanaged. Even a token rewards program is better than none, and yes I understand there will still be occasional promotions.
I just got it too and my first ever coupon 15% off a $2000 or greater watch WTF. Do people still wear watches or look at their phone. When you think ebay can’t get worse they do.
Just checked my messages.
Had the "continued bonus bucks" language and mastercard plug.
Agree 1% never motivated me.
Looked into the card once before and learned card rewards were not applicable in coin categories. Seemed misleading. Really have to read the fine print.
There are certainly a lot of different notices posted here.
I wonder why that eBay did not send out the same notification to all Buck members?

Hello Wayne,
Thank you for being a Bucks member, and a valuable part of our eBay community. We’re reaching out to tell you about upcoming changes to the eBay Bucks program.
After careful consideration, we’ve decided to retire the 1% earnings reward on everyday purchases starting April 1st, 2021. The good news is, you will continue to receive bonus Bucks offers, so you can keep earning.
And, beginning April 1st, the Bucks you earn will have a 12-month redemption window, so there’s even more time to score those big savings.
We hope that gives you more time to enjoy everyday savings and deals on the brands you love. Plus, all the exciting finds you’ve come to expect on eBay: from the rare to the retro to the right now.

Meh. My eBay buying was infrequent enough that my rewards were often less than $1. If they have other means for accumulating rewards and give you longer to spend them, it might be better for me.

Maybe I need to add watches to my store to attract some rewards. Haha

I never cared or bought things because of it anyway but, it's typical big business in action. This same mentality (squeeze ever last cent out of every transaction) is the same reason Vegas sucks compared to years ago. They don't care about you.
If you do what you always did, you get what you always got.
I'll admit the 8% and 10% promos they used to send out would occasionally motivate me to jump off the fence on a purchase, but the 5% promos and 1% standard rate never moved the needle for me. I am a small time player and my Bucks rebates rarely exceeded $20, so it's not a big loss to me.
I would much rather see them spend some time addressing their state sales tax algorithm, I am tired of paying 6.35% on purchases that are legally exempt from sales tax where I live.

After careful consideration, we’ve decided to retire the 1% earnings reward on everyday purchases starting April 1st, 2021.
Even though these rewards are coming to an end, you can still enjoy major savings on unique products and daily deals on the brands you love.
You can also earn extra rewards through the eBay Mastercard®, earning up to 5x points on eBay purchases.‡ Now through March 11th, 2021, open a new eBay Mastercard, spend $250 in the first 30 days and receive a $50 statement credit.* Click here to learn more.
We hope you’ll keep checking back in for all the exciting finds you’ve come to expect on eBay: from the rare to the retro to the right now.

I used to max out several ebay accounts each quarter.. so usually $1,000+ per quarter in ebay bucks. It has been dwindling in the last year, and now will basically dry up. My ebay days are drawing to a close it feels like.

Well, It was nice while it lasted. I suspect I earned close to 10 Grand if not more. I remember 1 quarter I maxed out 2 accounts buying slabbed 10 Libs from AMPEX for a few dollars over spot. That was just like getting pure cash on top of the CC bonuses! I sold them all the next week at a coin show for a few bucks more each than I paid for them!

I don't think you did that on the 1%. They will still be running the promos. They just aren't offering the 1% at all times.

1% Ebucks didn't motivate us to buy anything on E-Bay. Giving us a $20 discount for a $2000 coin doesn't cut it.
Bonus e-bucks might work but we haven't received an offer in a long while. If premiums on $20 gold shrinks there will be little motivation to remain on E-Bay, as a seller.
"We’ve decided to retire the 1% earnings reward on everyday purchases starting April 1st, 2021"
Thread title is misleading. Ebay will no longer pay 1% on normal purchases (bullion was not included). They have the option of un-retiring the 1% in the future. They will continue to offer bonus bucks periodically to those enrolled in the program. Note in their latest program details that self enrollment is no longer available.

The end of an era. Those 10% bonus buck were awesome. Used to max several accounts every quarter, flip the coins and use the bonus bucks to acquire free gold.
Then came the random bonus offers on some accounts but not all, and then the reductions to 5%, sometimes only 3%, sales tax on coin listed in places like jewelry and collectables, cancellation of Mr. Rebates, standard deduction from 2% to 1% and now 0%.
Gone forever are the good ole days. See ya eBay, you used to be the best. RGDS!

I've never thought it was worth it for current premiums on gold. Unless you get the Apmex special rate, wholesale/retail spread isn't more than 5% typically.
I reckon they have been getting absolutely destroyed by the no fees on certain Athletic shoes, paying for authentication, and handing out ebay bucks on top.

Got it. I will now buy less there and bid more on Great Collections.....
so you'd rather pay a large buyers fee than lose a 1% bonus?
I plan that buyers fee into my bid price. What ever I'd have bid or paid on Ebay, I just subtract $5 and bid that amount. Win some lose some. Just remember some of us small fish don't have the big bucks like some to bid on items that are really high price. So the buyers fee means nothing to me as I've never won an item that cost me more than a $20 buyers fee anyway. And there's less fraud or counterfeits to worry about....

All valid points, but I'm not sure what any of that has to do with the 1% bonus.

IN the past most of my buying was done when I received a bonus & Apmex had a special. Thus, you were buying gold with the low premiums at spot or below. I was buying graded double eagles. I did build up a fair sized inventory over the years thanks to E-Bay so I have a good supply of coins to sell. In this environment I'm offering/selling coins with the largest premiums to spot and buying the ETF GLD. If the premiums shrink my selling days will wind down.
There have been times when I spotted a coin on E-Bay that I believed to be relatively well priced. In the past I would pull the trigger when I received the bonus offer which put the coin within my buy range. Without that inducement of Bonus bucks I cease to be a buyer.

Seems fine with me. That 1% was never a motivator for me, and I hated that one-month redemption window.
It's not the end...just a change to the existing program😎
Got the email too, that sucks
My other account got this email...which clearly does not offer any addition BUCKS
So it appears Ebay will be ENDING the program for some, while offering limited BONUS BUCK promotions to a few others.

1% wasn't much much but it does add up. Another reason I'm slowing down business with ebay.
