Ikes on GreatCollections Tonight

I bid on both of these coins, and I thought my bids were not only competitive, but I was actually a little uncomfortable. Turns out I wasn't even close on either of them. Has this kind of coin been going for these prices lately, or has the massive asset inflation finally hit coins?

Lots of coins are bringing crazy prices and things on GC have been going for real strong.

Those are really nice. I wish I could tell the difference between those and my 65/66's.

Sounds like I should seriously think about sending my non-core holdings to Ian!

Over on the "Dark Side" it has been like this for several years, at least for me.
Many times I bid several multiples of the estimate ( 5- 15 x). Sometimes I am
am winner within these amounts, but many times I am not. The reference I use
may say the coin is common/scarce/very scarce but auction appearances are
few and far between. Coins such as the 1804 dollar and the 1894-S dime
show up much more frequently and they have the same extant population.
I know my bidding habits seem odd/strange, but at my age (63), I would rather
look at a coin instead of an empty spot. I get great pride in ownership.

:o Wow!! I had no idea Ike's were bringing that kind of money. I should take a look at mine.... several still in the mint box.... That kind of price could even get me to sell.... especially since I have had mine 'forever'.... Cheers, RickO

GC should be receiving my type set sometime today. I can no longer see the coins well enough to enjoy them. It has been a long and slow progression from great vision to what the heck is that. I hope the coins do well, there are even a few darkside coins that I used to really enjoy looking at.

interesting trend ... looking at the PCGS auction archives -the last auction records they posted for a MS67 were 2017 and only 10 pieces in the last 16 years ...so if one was looking to buy one via the auction path it has been 3 + years since one on the auction blocks ...add CAC on top might have driven up the prices.

it only takes 2 people wanting the same coin at the same time to drive up a price,

Other than the 71-D Ikes are about as difficult to make in true MS67 than Peace dollars. Seriously. I don't even have to look at the POPS to know that 67 with a plus is one rare bird.

I like Ikes, but I only collect the ones with some silver.

Those look nice to me and prices are crazy high for a lot of things.

was i sleeping when the memo went out that CAC is doing moderns now?

phew. getting grades like that on ikes IS TOUGH! and CAC. those prices kinda make sense w/o checking pops.

However, the copper nickel clad coins are much scarcer in higher grades than the silver issues.

They do business strike Ikes and I believe have for a while now. They don't do anything else post 1963 (and don't even do some of those).

CAC was accepting business strike Ikes since the get-go...but not proofs.

    Strong prices!!!
73D CAC pop = 2, none higher. 74D CAC pop = 10, none higher. Since CAC does not list plus grades, and folds that 74D 67+ into the pop of 10, the 74D that just sold is no doubt top pop of the 74D CACs.
Both would have bumped up my Ike CAC registry set: https://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/alltimeset/225103
However, I did not bid, since I am in the downsizing mode. I sold a bunch of CAC Ikes to a good guy back in December, and still have another 40 not in my CAC Ike set.......I gotta send @ianrussell my CAC Ikes!

Also some of the doubled die Memorials. I forget the list.
