Morgan Dollar ... in gold ... times 5!

Here's a great pattern using the Morgan Dollar reverse on a half eagle!

There's a nice contrast to the TrueView and the Heritage photos which is a reason why I think it's important to keep both.

Bob Simpson really has an amazing collection, thanks to Laura and George, It's amazing how large and varied it is.

This piece is coming up. Will someone here get it? Will the Black Cat get it?

Very nice... Though I would like to see the same in a large gold coin.... I like big gold... well, all gold, but the big coins are really nice. Cheers, RickO

The reverse is pretty spot on but the obverse is a bit different, though the face, nose and hair are the same.

The closest match for the reverse is actually the 1877 50c J-1508 to J-1511 and 1878 $1 J-1550a/J-1550b. The wreath is missing on the J-1558, but the central devices (eagle, arrows & branch) are very close to the other patterns. There are some unique design changes on these patterns not found on the regular issue Morgan dollar (for example, the 3 leaves on branch, and altered lower wing shape & tail shape).

You own a gold one ... via the Smithsonian!

The two gold specimens are both impounded, one in the Smithsonian and one in the Connecticut State Library. Imagine being able to pick up one of these gold ones!
