Any population reports on OGH for specific coins and CAC pops for NGC versus PCGS

willywilly Posts: 361 ✭✭✭✭✭

I am looking at putting together a set of coins in OGH and 100% CAC and was just trying to figure out if it is even remotely possible before I start. All in one solid grade also. I am thinking I might have to be a little flexible on this quest as it includes a lot of coins. Just looking for something interesting to do while I look for the last coins in my TYPE set. I know some coins have been cracked out so the population reports if they exist will not be accurate.

Thanks Willy

Ok...What coins are you thinking about?

You will likely have to be much more than "a little flexible" given the nebulous nature of the stated goal. However, as a start you can attempt to find a PCGS population report from late 1998 as this is when the OGH was retired and the blue inserts started. Something in the last quarter of 1998 should give you the original numbers for rattler, doily and OGH coins combined. The rest would be up to you to find the coins. Good luck!

20th Century, or back to the 18th? How much do you have to spend and what grade are you looking at?

I have a 1996 if you want me to snap a pic.

Wow... that is quite a project you are considering..... It will take years, not months.... IMO... Cheers, RickO

I have a PCGS The PCGS Population Report, January 1999.
This report is close to late 19998 -- would the data from this report be of any use for your project?

The January, 1999 report should work well for most issues. The transition from OGH to the blue insert occurred in the fall of 1998 either in September or October. The closest report I appear to have on-hand is one from October, 1997.

This is admittedly a short set with only 8 coins, but I found all of them within a year. It's a challenge - I missed a few coins by being too slow to find them, and others by being outbid. OGH/CAC coins are high demand so you'll have stiff competition. Having said that it's great to land one and even better to string a few together, and feels like a real accomplishment to finish the set.

    Good luck.
