I've been trying for the elusive 1972 IKE Type 2 in MS65 for quite awhile. The 2 below did okay, but I have one more submission at PCGS with a nicer Type 2 that I'm hoping will get me the MS65, but you never know...
Anyway, not bad results for a couple of $40 pickups:

They just received the order.. so a couple weeks?
About 20-years ago a woman in front of me at the grocery store paid for her order using two bank-wrapped rolls of Ike dollars. The cashier just took the rolls intact and I asked if I could buy them. She gladly sold them to me at face value to get rid of them from her register. The end coin on one roll was a wonderful lilac 1972 Type II that graded PCGS MS64 when I submitted it.

I’ve been looking for a PCGS slabbed type 2 and type 3 for a while. Just trying to find them at a good price.
I've too have been looking for a good 65, so far the 64s look much better than any 65 I've seen.
Though coin to find.
it does seem tough to hit a 65.
i was VERY fortunate enough to be going through a BIG bucket if ikes years ago and came across a type 2 (found many but this was the nicest by far), sent it off and pcgs was kind enough to say it was a 65.
sheesh, now i think about it, after all the buckets i've been through, i think i probably made a whopping $1 an hour. >< LOL
Tough coin for sure! Frustrating sometimes as I see numerous 65s that have NO business being in that holder. I have several 64s that I may send back in to try again...
Still waiting for my last submission results that I mentioned above... It's a beauty, but let's see if the PCGS Gods agree
How often does PCGS update it's POP report? The Type 2 in MS63 just moved up 1

I got one back in pcgs 64 I found in a collection of stuff while back. one of my customers bought a 66 , but buddy he paid for it
@jdimmick I hear you... told myself a long time ago I wouldn't buy one... I've been at this for years and have plenty of beautiful MS64s (that look better than lots of 65s I've seen) to show for it. It's like MS65 is an impassible wall!
OK... added to my list of things to check in my coin cabinets...
Next snowstorm, I promise.

Finally!!! After years of trying.. Here it is:

Nice coin.
Several years ago when I went to the bank the manager asked if I want some dollar coins. I said sure! She plopped up a bag of mint state Ike’s on the counter. .....350 to be exact. I took them all. They look like they came off the press that day. I took them home and put them in tubes for a rainy day search. I did check for silver ....none to be found.
That's a "WOW" coin for sure! Looks MS66 from my seat. Did the ticks on the eagle's wing (right along the edge of it) keep it from a higher grade? Definitely a stunner for any date, let alone the elusive 1972-P
Not to take away, yet rather to add to the discussion, I just purchased the following Walking Liberty half (for a short set DANSCO album) and can't help but see similarities in the toning. Striking really.
Do you agree? The Ike is a bit lighter (and more attractive with its tone), yet the colors blend the same:

Congrats, beautiful coin. Now maybe you'll want to unload one of your lowly MS64's to me.
Not necessarily good or bad. Type 2 Ikes originate from only two die pairs. Yours is from the likely lower mintage March release die pair, but the more common die stage from that pair.
If you have multiple Type 2 Ikes, then reviewing their markers can be interesting, IMO. Heck, you might even want to collect al 5 DIVa Ikes in this family: https://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/showcase/7713
