Trade Dollar Real or Fake?

I know that it has been cleaned. Posted this Trade dollar on ebay and in a Facebook group for sale. Last night I had someone comment on the coin saying it was fake. I have not worried about it being fake, because I purchased it from my local dealer I trust a few years ago. I have shown it to a few dealers since who have not questioned the coin either. Opinions please.

Real or not, it's been harshly cleaned with sandpaper. Hard pass.

I'll agree that it has been harshly cleaned. I thought the chopmarks were cool though so I bought it.

Suggest that you polish out those scratches and carry it with your pocket change as a pocket piece to give it a more natural wear look.

I think the OP knows it's been harshly cleaned.

The question is real or fake.

    I say real.

I'm not a TD expert but I see nothing to indicate it being a counterfeit. Hopefully, you didn't pay too much for it. Great pocket piece though.

The guy has commented saying the eagle looks fat. Anyone here see what he is talking about?

Looks good, mintmark lines up with the MS66 in coinfacts.

Thank you all for your opinions. Greatly appreciated. An administrator to the group has commented saying that he thinks the coin looks legitimate when compared to known examples. But he does say that the eagle looks fat and he is not sure. Onto the BST I guess.

Don't know about fat, but has that shocked look from being scrubbed!

Too bad that a CC Trade Dollar suffered this fate but the damage is done. FWIW it looks real enough to me but I couldn't be 100% certain because harsh cleaning lines can also serve to hide imperfections in a counterfeit.

I like PH's take... cool pocket piece! If you hang onto it long enough it might holder at P01?? ;-)

Tragic as there does not seem to be any damage (other than the chop) apart from the scrubbing.

I agree - carry it for a few years and maybe it will wear down a couple grades past the scratches.

Not a trade dollar expert but it looks real enough.
