With a more modern design & only 24 different date & mint mark combinations in the series, I'm beginning to understand the appeal of a Peace dollar collection compared to the challenges of a 97 coin Morgan series. In keeping with my collecting interests for frosty, lightly toned silver dollars, I decided to pick up another Peace example, this time a 1928. I'll post some pictures and reveal the grade later on.     That looks like a solid 64... Though I do not care for the tarnish, the coin itself is nice. That would be a crackerdipper for me. Cheers, RickO

    I like, Obv. is very nice.
    A tad too much tone on Rev. for me but hey it's not my coin.

    Thanks for all the guesses! It's a 63, but looks like it could be a 63+ or 64. Of course, we all wish our coins are half a grade or so higher than they really are. Either way, I really like the look and the grade & I'm excited to see it in hand soon.

    Any properly graded MS 1928 is a nice coin, and yours certainly is. It's always fun to see these.

    As for collecting Peace Dollars, it's a bit different than Morgans. Larry Shapiro and I have talked about this quite a bit. I'm paraphrasing a bit, and maybe I'm not quoting him perfectly, but he is of the opinion that a top-10 registry set of Morgans could be assembled in six months, if you actually put in some effort to buy nice coins and not just nice holders.

    To build a top-registry collection of Peace dollars, he thinks it usually takes a couple of years, assuming you're active in all the big auctions and paying attention. You might be able to assemble a numerically nice set more quickly, but to actually find nice coins in each issue will take a while.

    When I was building my set, it was ridiculously difficult to find an nice 26-S and a nice 27. Neither is especially difficult to locate, on average, but at that particular moment, none were coming to auction. That same problem doesn't happen so much with Morgans.

    Of course this is nothing like the time and effort it takes to assemble a top set of Saints or Bust dollars, but you get the idea.

    @BryceM thank you for the collecting advice for the Peace series! I'm hoping my education in patience and perseverance in the Morgan series will be helpful in putting together a nice Peace dollar set over time. I'm in no rush to assemble it but I do enjoy window shopping along the way.

    I'm not a fan of Peace dollars in general, but if I was to own one, I'd be very happy with your choice.

    Guess I came too late to guess, but honestly when I saw the first post I thought that it was one of those coins a TPG would call either a 58 or a 63.

    The strike and presence of relatively few contact marks look like a 64. Don’t even think about a “cracker dipper”, there are already too many “blast white” Peace dollars.

    @Portross I agree 100%. I love original skin, especially with some tarnish-toning along the rims.
