When Gimmicks Work

I'm not one for collecting the dizzying array of modern coin finishes that have been put out lately, but once in a while, the gimmick works. This "enhanced uncirculated" Ozark Riverways NP quarter got it right. The polished flowing water against the rest of the coin looks pretty good if you light it right. I just wish they could fix the 60-grit finish so that it looked good. They should have something in between for the sky, too. Anyway, it fills the 2017 slot in my Prime Number set.

The water does present a nice contrast and I agree with you that the sky needs a little something to set it apart.

Very nice coin and a great picture of it. I like the effect of the flowing water... Could picture that entire scene on an overcast day....Cheers, RickO

I agree 100% - this Ozarks design in enhanced just POPS. That water, wow! Wish the same effect had been applied to the 5-oz version.

I also think the enhanced finish works on the US Marshal silver dollar. Though not advertised as enhanced, it clearly is. The Marshal's white shirt is a different frosting that other features, and on the obverse, some elements of the design are light satin, while the silhouetted horses are heavily frosted, and the Marshal star is mirror finish.

Yes! This is using the ability to have multiple levels of frost so effectively, you don't realize it. From a technical standpoint, they should be able to produce an almost photographic image, since the level of frosting is simply related to the power of the laser that engraves the die, but that puts it into a lead roll, where it should be merely supporting the sculpture aspect of coin design.

I could cheat and use French First Republic coinage, where 2 is 1793ish, for dates up through 11, but I'm going to stick with AD stuff for now.
