I didn't know that he made these, too.

You guys are hard to please-too jaded-but I hope that you like this one. I think that it's neat.

In the world of old rare shotguns, that is not a high price at all.

I saw it in the previous thread and thought it was very cool. https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/1047596/bechtler-shotgun

It will be interesting to see what it sells for. Thanks for posting the link.

Sorry, I didn't realize that it had been posted previously.

Is any of the substantial value attributed to the fact that the Bechtlers struck coins or is it's value in the fact that it's rare, and fine quality? Do North Carolina guns from other gunmakers of Bechtler's stature sell in this range?

Price-wise, North Carolina enjoys a strong market for it's obsolete and national currency and I wouldn't be surprised if North Carolina made collectible guns were popular and expensive, too.

Fine craftsmanship... And a historic piece.... Not one to be taken afield in pheasant season though. Cheers, RickO

Did it actually sell? It only says "lot passed," which makes me think the reserve was not met.

Didn't sell but it looks like it got 4 bids at or above the $40,000 open. Made it to $46,000 and was passed. No way to tell if the bids were actual bidders or bids placed by the auction house to meet reserve. Seems unlikely that the the reserve was $48,000 instead of a round number, like 50K but the house could have stopped bidding at 46K because there was no action or $46,000 could have been the top legit bid. Based on the comments offered by members here, I presume that the bids were all legit, as this seems to be a very good gun that buyers would have loved to own. The owner just loved it a little more.

Are the squirrels any more dead than they otherwise would be if they get popped by a $40,000 gun?
