An easy way for insurance quantification?

I am not joking in saying I have a thousand PCGS graded coins. I was just going through them and realized; I have quite a bit in them. I need to enumerate them for adequate insurance. How do I do that with thousands of coins? I need a bar code scanner to integrate with a spreadsheet. Does any one know of a solution?

If you are an ANA member you can get excellent insurance through Hugh Wood, Inc. They do not need an itemized list for individual coins or sets that are below $10,000 in value. However you should, of course, contact them and not rely on information from me as to the details of a policy. Good luck.

I use Hugh Wood. Their rates are very reasonable but the peace of mind knowing my stuff is covered is priceless.

Hugh Wood is the way to go. Many homeowners’ policies won’t even cover them.

Insurance is good to have.... However, it comes 'after the disaster'. It would be prudent to ensure you have taken good measures to prevent disasters (to the extent possible). Proper security and safety procedures and equipment in place and functional should be paramount. Insurance funds are a small consolation when lives or precious irreplaceable items are lost. Photos. Same is true for jewelry, household furnishings. You can take group photos; maybe 6 or 8 coins in a photo. If they are worth something then they are worth the time to save an image to go with your spreadsheet.

Have you decided on a scanner 'and/or' inventory software?

If you see dealers work at major shows and scan all the barcodes and do technical analysis on them. I would try to do that and get them insured like Tom Bush recommended. Safe deposit box for safety. Cac submissions to maximize value. Professional imaging if that has not been done.

Sell them all and put the cash to work elsewhere. Brokerages provide easy tracking of the kind that you're looking for. My 2 cents worth.

Actually you can use a pcgs app to bar scan your coins for verification, so there may be a way to also add them to inventory through the app

Personally I'd just manually do one at a time from a PCGS box of twenty at a time when I had the time to do it. Eventually you'll get there.

What he said. You can use the set registry phone app to scan them in, after everything is scanned in you can export to a spreadsheet.
