One of my favorite pastimes... Pawing through 90% Silver

I've got albums and tubes filled with better than average 90% silver.
A few rolls of Mercury dimes that are oh so close to the full the weight of my UNC Roosevelts.
A complete Walking Liberty half set (minus 3 I had to pay up for)
Two different Frankin Albums complete...
All for the price of silver at the time. In the times where I have no focus or direction, I always have a good time hunting for nice 90% silver. Whether common date AU examples or lower mintage problem free stuff... I like it all.
I bought these two yesterday for $20 just for the hellofit.

Nice finds. I used to go to the local coin shop a few times a week and ask if he had Walkers in his 90% tub. Each time I bought everyone of the VR/EF ones he had. That is a fun coin to find.

Nice Walkers... One of my favorites - they circulated in change when I was a kid.... I have only found one while roll hunting halves...Cheers, RickO

The appeal of "Pawing through 'junk silver'" is that it somewhat returns us to the days when we could build these collections from circulating change.

My strategy is about collecting what I intend to keep, not investing in what I plan to sell.

Finding a decent pre-1934 Walker is always a treat!

    All glory is fleeting.

Fished this out of the 90% box a few years ago. I don't collect Barbers as a rule but grabbed a few dates I was unsure of and didn't realize what I had until some time later.

Not one of mine. There's a reason it's also called junk :D

Nothing is as expensive as free money.

Loving it! I went through some yesterday. Should have snapped a pic. I’ll be going in again at some point this week. I’ll try to remember to take some pics.

I've found many strong doubled dies by going thru junk silver.

This looks like a lot of fun. Kind of like a stress ball, but silver instead of squishy.

About 10-12 years ago i bought a bag of 10000 silver dimes. One day during a blizzard i dumped it out on my floor and started sorting them. I seperated the Mercs and Barbers . There were probably about 30 or 40 Mercs and Maybe 3 or 4 Barbers. When i was done my hands were black! It was "fun" though

When I first started collecting as a kid (12ish), the father of a man at my church let me go through a bag of 1000 Mercs and keep ANY 100 I wanted. A few from the ‘20s a handful from the ‘30s and a whole bunch of VF/XF stuff from the ‘40s was all I got, but the treasure hunt was fantastic and it really kickstarted my collection. Many of those coins are still in my collection in 2x2s (they were my best coins at the time. I had to protect them!)
Found G 1921 Merc in a jink bin at a jeweler’s when I was a teen, too. Still one of my happiest collecting moments.

Yea - I enjoy it. When the price is right it is even better!
