Blue Indian Copper!

Saw this indian proof and was intrigued by the trueview. I was a little skeptical about the blue toning, but I bought it anyways. However, in hand I am amazed! It is a beautiful coin and the blue really pops! What do you think about blue copper? It's so hard to get good pictures, but here's mine! Show em if you got em!

I just can’t help but think while trendy now that the future won’t think highly of them since many came that way via a dip. They are nice looking though, that one especially. Since eye wow is the surest way to value and copper needs a little love sometime, I could be wrong about the future.

Oh boy. Lot's of previous discussion here about blue copper. You should dig up the Eagle Eye thread on the topic for entertainment.

EDIT: Don't ask how, but I read the title as "Blue Copper". My apologies for the off-topic post.

Congratulations on a beautiful coin acquisition. I am jealous. If I could ever afford to own one of those it would be exactly like yours. Thanks for sharing.

Where is that can of worms icon, lol. In the past there has been a lot of discussion on blue copper, many feel that it can easily be created at home, some say otherwise.

Hah! I call the TrueView the "glamor shot". When you hold the coin at just the right angle to the light it's vibrant blue.

the blue is possibly because they got washed with clothes, the detergent is similar to ms70

I heard a rumour that one guy made a lot of the blue copper around today and it gets slabbed because it doesn't hurt the metal or the (non-color) value, sort of like rainbow bullion, so it's no risk to the grading companies' guarantees, but it doesn't get CAC'd because it's not original

anyone else hear a similar story?

I saw that in some of the old posts on the subject. Insider2 had an interesting post about it. I would want to try this experiment, I just don't think I would want to mess up nicely toned copper.

    Great looking coin.

Not to derail this thread about Indian cents, but since it was asked - yes I have heard rumors as well. If you look at Coinfacts, the latest Matte Proof Lincoln 1909, 1911, 1912 & 1913 PR 67's are all blue. Somehow this person has gotten our hosts to buy-in on the color. I don't think any of them are CAC to answer your other question. As I've stated in other similar threads, some of these are pretty and some are original, but I think the majority are not original and since I can't tell the difference, I just look from afar.

I just finished a David Lisot video from many years ago in the Newman Numismatic Portal.

It was a Toning/AT presentation by a gent named Campbell on detecting natural toning.

Somewhat recall a brief mention of a dip, copper, and blue toning process. Lack of rinse maybe?

My biggest concern, is how long ago it was dipped? Is it stable?

Cannot complain because I am sure some of my Morgans have been dipped white.

    They are certainly eye catching.

Agree. I would add more to your comments but you said it best. Personally,.....I'm becoming less and less of a toning enthusiast. The "blast white" phase was also a bit over the top. I guess people just naturally gravitate to extremes. Non messed with original skin gets it for me. To each his own.

If the blue toning is actually AT, wouldn't acetone remove it?

Found these pics on my phone but have much better examples at home, maybe later. I just assumed it was always just a natural process.

From an ancient thread I'm trying to recall, I don't think so.
I said that Blue Ribbon (or Care) removes it, but Rick corrected me, and said no,
Blue Ribbon covers it up, it doesn't remove it.
If you acetone off the Blue Ribbon, the 'blue frost' from MS70 comes back.
(I hope I'm remembering this correctly, it's been many years).

Certainly Rick has forgotten more about copper than I'll ever know, so I took his word
    for it.

It certainly looks better than the ones on Coinfacts in higher grades. Just me but I’d be sending that little Jewel in for an upgrade and a glamour shot.

I have seen plenty of Blue Copper with a sticker from CAC. It seems to me the color does not matter but the originality of the piece does. I have never personally messed with coins in any fasion so I do not know what you can do with chemicals. I do know I like the look of what I see as original blue copper. If someone can make that look I assume there would be much more of it available. I may be wrong. So laugh away.

If someone can make that look --- several can and have.
I assume there would be much more of it available --- the above answer is precisely why so much is available.
I may be wrong --- you are.

Could you show me some. And explain clearly how it is made.
So much. What is your definition of so much. I do not see so much available.

Has all blue copper been chemically enhanced? Does any blue copper exist that has not been chemically enhanced?

I am speaking of uncirculated lustrous examples. Proof or MS. There are plenty of obvious blue colored coins that have been made. They are neither attractive nor lustrous.
