Have you ever seen denticles like this on a genuine coin? I cannot match it on heritage archives

I am far from being an authority, but I don't like the lack of denticle definition in comparison to the strong star strike details.

i thought about running the dollar down but busy with other things and with that holder, figured it was a recently-ish graded coin and wouldn't have slipped through the system due to the value. still nothing on the coin i'd condemn just yet (from those images) but now that you are asking.....

Bruce, I understand your point with the denticles, but the rest of the coin looks good to me.
Definitely a deceptive pic in the OP. Wasn’t so nice in the NGC cert verification pic

d, e and f are the closest but close doesn't usually count. D is a little fuzzy but is close.
That picture helps. Maybe it's reverse E, but the date doesn't seem to line up with obverse 2 (OC-8).
Edit: Maybe reverse B.

Here are some PCGS images of 70-CC Seated $1 with weak denticles and similar mintmark positioning. Nothing as high grade as this. I don't have time to do a deeper dive but have fun. #3 is almost identical but way lower grade.

OC-5 states, "[Die State B:] Die polishing has eliminated most of the die lines and significantly reduced the unfinished area under the chin." Perhaps this die polishing took out the denticles in question, but Osburn and Cushing don't mention it. OC-6 is a later use of obverse 3, so it should also have shallow denticles here, but the pictures of such coins I found on Heritage show normal denticles. The reverse of OC-5 looks normal opposite these shallow denticles, as well, so it's not a problem with the reverse die, either. I'd throw this over the wall to Messrs. Osburn and Cushing for an opinion.

close, but not this time. didn't seem the same but thought i'd show and overlay of the 2 coins. the impressions may be a little further apart. i did this overlay pretty quickly..
Look at the 0 in the date at between 2 and 3 o’clock. Same contact mark on two different coins?
Starting to look a lot like a Burfle post when also comparing the hits on the neck and breast area with the possible host coin.

it's not on the ngc coin just the raw one.
Here is a comparison of the mint marks of the OP's coin and a CoinFact Coin. The OP's coin mintmark base appears to be quite thicker than the CoinFact Coin while the top of the mintmark is the same. Not sure if this is meaningful, but a big difference to me.

I have seen similar denticals on 74cc trade dollars that I was sure were/are genuine. Here is one that is handy but I have seen worse

that is a good start. you need to compare all known reverses (at least) to the host ngc coin for comp to get decisive information and really best to do some obv information as well if the reverse doesn't give definitive info.
kind of like we've been doing in this thread where several people contributed bits and pieces and then we all try to tie the information provided together as best we can since no one here has the host coin in their possession.
meaning that the coin you've shown turned out to not be authentic?
If that coin (PCGS58) is fake there are dozens of fake 74cc in TPG holders. That said I can't rule it out but I personally don't think they are fake. I suspect there was a die worker in common and somewhere in the working die transfer it was impressed with the impact planes not 100%
