No expert here but the MM does look inverted to me. Looking at it from the opposite perspective makes it look "normal" to me.

has the look but need sharper images but it is highly unlikely.

looks to me like PMD which has flattened the bottom loop.
This or a partially filled die. The normal mint mark is fairly symmetrical on the top and bottom, is it not?

what do normal S mint marks look like for that year?

the center has been mashed down. probably the top loop, too.
Looks inverted at first glance. But closer examination shows some damage.
