Machine Doubling, really?

Hi guys, I brought this subject up awhile ago. I bought this 1964 Mint Set, specifically for the Quarter mint mark appearance. I thought for sure, this was at least the RPM. To me, the Mint mark actually looks to be a "triple RPM"? Notice the inner doubling as well. Yes or No? Thanks guys. :) Sorry Guys for the Blurriness

    Variety Vista doesn't list an east or east/east rpm for this date.

    It might well be an RPM for all i know, but it appears very "flat and shelflike", which is a key indicator of MD.

    I don't think it is a repunched mintmark. Look how narrow the right side of the raised portion of the 'D' is... indicating a portion of it was 'smashed' down making it narrower. But that is just my opinion given the photos. With better angles and lighting... might be able to make a better judgement.

    I get it in thinking it is the dreaded M.D. It's just I don't ever noticing any machine doubling with multiple layers such as my coin has? Thank you all!

    Machine doubling on the D mint mark is common as flies on 1964 quarters, and yes sometimes tripling.
    I just pulled out an Unc roll and the first 15 coins have some sort of machine doubling, here are 4 of the better ones.
    Sorry the photos aren't better but I think you get the idea.
    So the answer to your question is yes, it really is machine doubling.

    While machine tripling is not as common as machine doubling it is not all that uncommon. Your coin is a nice example with nice separation, but it is still just chatter from the dies. Machine doubling, ejection doubling, strike doubling ... so many names for the same effect. The die got into a nice little rhythmic chatter.

    Tripled machine doubling would be 6 MMs. ;)

    AS others have said, it's MD. I have seen many 64-D quarters with the same characteristics.
