If not for damage could this be a 1943 1C?

What causes the black molten look shown on the coin? Any info will be appreciated. Thanks

    It's just corroded.

    It's also not a 1943, While the date is damaged, that does not look at all like a 3. Size and shape are wrong.

    Not a '43 cent, appears to have a tar-like residue. Definitely Post Mint Damage (PMD). A long soak in acetone (pure) would probably remove the residue, though not really worth the effort. Cheers, RickO

    The tail of the “3” doesn’t extend far enough. It would be nearly as low as the bottom the the 9 if it was a 1943. I can see how a coin like that can get your blood up though! I’m guessing PMD 1946
