No more PCGS original boxes?

joeykoinsjoeykoins Posts: 17,564 ✭✭✭✭✭

Hi guy's. Yes, I finally received my coin from our Host. The most valuable one in my collection. The Jefferson 1940 reverse of the 1938 proof. However, I wasn't expecting to get it in a cardboard box? I am aware of them sending these out in replace of the plastic original boxes. Oh well, I guess it was my turn? Lol. Yeah, finally got my coin. I sent it in at the beginning of November. At least it came back unscathed. Lol. How do you like? Thanks guy's :)

Here's my friend's coin that came with my submission. The 1954 s/d Jefferson

What does the inside of the box look like?

I'm personally glad they send the smaller boxes for smaller orders. For some reason I have trouble throwing these away and they just pile up until I get overwhelmed and turn them into landfill.

I like the new smaller box. The box of 10 concept sounds easy on the wallet. :)

It hurt my eyes a bit seeing that mushy strike on the 54-S/D.

I have received both. Couple of weeks ago I got plastic.

I really like the white cardboard boxes....they look classy in my opinion

Those smaller boxes are actually quite sturdy and should last for many years. They also don't take up as much room in safe deposit boxes.

Last week I received a black box. I like the black box.
The new cardboard shipping box is side opening now. I think I like the top opening ones better.

i like the 54 s/d and yes that does look like a sturdy box

The cardboard box is an ideal way of sending some slabs in the mail, too, if you're selling or trading to someone. It packs very tightly with no rattles so no need to do anything to keep the coins in place.

Great box. Way better than the plastic pile I have. Love your nickels.

I wonder if they decide the shipping box by value of the coins submitted? 2 weeks ago I got a black plastic box back with only 4 coins submitted, total value of around $1500. Although Joey's would be close to that as well.

My last sub of 9 coins had a very high value and it still came back in the new white box. I think it's slightly random at this point.

Strange, I guess it's just luck of the draw.

That's way bigger than what I get for 2 slab orders on eBay!

They had the PCGS Orange Box giveaway recently. I've yet to get one though I've been hunting on the secondary market!

Perhaps plastic boxes will be used for future giveaways?

You are throwing away the PCGS Plastic boxes? They are easy to sell in the $4-5 range.
