Who Decides When A Thread Is Closed?

As a new member I am curious as to who can close a thread. I tried to close my thread last night but couldn't figure out how to do it and today I see it was closed.
Who did it if it wasn't me?

Typically questions are answered and it falls off the first page. Sometimes the admins will close pages for content that is not appropriate.

Interesting. Does someone have to ask the Moderator to close a thread or does Big Brother decide on their own?
Not complaining because I wanted it closed anyway. Just trying to understand the rules.....
Happens both ways.
They only close threads that are either misplaced or deemed a rules violation. Sometimes they do it on their own, sometimes it is the result of people reporting the thread.
They don't close threads just to close them.
Thank you. It would be nice if the Moderators would give the OP the ability to close their own thread. I am surprised this can't be done.
My thread was fun at the time but by the end of the day I was done. It is very time consuming to keep a thread going for people who have a life outside of this forum😂🤣
Hey Moderators! You can close this thread now!🤣😂
They probably will
It's best to leave ultimate forum oversight to non-participants only. If an OP were engaged in a debate, it wouldn't be particularly fair for only one party to be able to close the discussion at will. A thread is also potentially interesting to others after an OP has moved on from it.
Good point! Thank you for your comment.
People don't own threads they start and just because the OP is done discussing the topic, that doesn't mean everybody is.
Ok then......
Also, you don't need to babysit your own thread. They often get off course or hijacked. Either way you can always just move on and leave the mess behind.
YES! Agreed. That is exactly why I wanted to close it. First it got hijacked, it went off course and then I got tired and felt like I had to babysit it😂🤣
One thing to consider is that on a forum, the thread isn't always only for the OP.
If you want to stop participating in a thread you created, you can just unbookmark it to stop receiving notifications.
...let me know when you figure this out because I have a pair of knee-high cashmere socks that need a couple threads closed
Yeah I did unbookmark it but then I felt it was rude not to respond to comments directed at me. I just wanted to end it at the end of the day. Again, I am glad it was closed.
This thread now CLOSED. Do not try responding to it anymore. Move on.
OK, got it.
Nice try. I think you should move on....

Well this has lasted longer than the controversial political thread that we all wanted closed. Glad to see that one finally shutdown.!
Who Decides When A Thread Is Closed?
I do, that when I stop opening it and busy myself with something else. I'll close this one when I hit the "Post" button.
