I feel 'blessed' and 'cursed' to know so much about the Commonwealth.
My family has lived in Massachusetts for 390 years.
I have not seen much of the rest of this great country which is why I like the members here posting things and pics from their part of our Nation.
It sure has changed a lot over those years. :)
Happy New Year to you all.

Boston is a great place and I miss it. Something for @ErrorsOnCoins is that I used to go sea kayaking in the Boston area with my friends. One dream was to kayak from Provincetown to Plymouth which I never got to do. Perhaps sometime after I retire? One thing I did get to do was sea kayak on to an island fort which I believe is Fort Warren on Georges Island. It was fun walking around the fort in our wetsuits with other visitors that came from the ferries.

It certainly looks like it. It was a small, low fort in Boston Harbor that ferries took guests to. There were quite a few visitors on the island when we were there. Spending a day kayaking on the water was a lot of fun.

I've also rowed in a scull on the Charles River.

That's quite interesting. Do you have a good collection of family history going back to the early 1600's?

That's awesome. Do you have any records of the ships your relatives took to get to America?

You might find this the info in this thread interesting. It discusses William Pynchon and John Pynchon who came from England to Boston and eventually moved and founded Springfield, MA (then in Connecticut). John Pychon built the first brick house in the Connecticut River Valley in 1660, with 50,000 bricks that were made / fired in England and shipped to the Americas!

Wasn't much work, the original home was the last standing 'wooden framed' house in 'Boston'.
some houses in what is now called Maine when Maine was Massachusetts.

Many more in Concord, Dorchester, Boston etc.

Thanks for the info, I will check my records......yes I have the name of the ship [if you want to call it a ship], not sure how anyone survived that three month trip across the ocean on a little boat.

I used to bike by the Emily Dickinson house in Amherst. That one was built in the early 1800's. I think it's been turned into a museum now.

The Emily Dickinson Museum comprises two historic houses in the center of Amherst, Massachusetts associated with the poet Emily Dickinson and members of her family during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

The Homestead was the birthplace and home of the poet Emily Dickinson.

It's not that bad is it ? I mean with high taxes, high real estate and high governmental corruption what could go wrong ? Maybe it is the Kennedy or the Obama influence that is the attraction. What did you do to deserve it ?

Never a resident, but when my kids were young we summered in Wellfleet or Truro for years.
Learned to squaredance in the Wellfleet parking lot.
And grabbed the brass ring at the carousel on the Vineyard more than once.

It's all a damn sight better than Jersey.
I should go back. With my radio on!

We used to go to Quincy every year during flounder season. We would rent a small motorboat and use a double rig and pull them up two at a time. Then get them fileted for a dime a fish. Unfortunately the water is now tainted and they don't allow fishing anymore.

That too. Sometimes I try to imagine what a street would look like with cars from the 1950s, mostly because 60s cars are still relatively common.

Here's the Palmer Statue in Colorado Springs from a bit earlier in 1925.

Here are two 2012 medals I have. Statue looks much the same as it does in the photo today. It's the cars that are different.
