I lived there for a while. There's a lot of history in Boston and it's easy to live in a house that was built before cars were available. Makes you think about what neighborhoods were like back then.

I have family that still lives outside of Boston a little ways.
A lot of the houses in the town they live in have the plaques saying when the house was originally built.
One relative has a house that was remodeled, noticeably, at least twice....and these were prior to 1900. House was originally late 17xx then was added on, then was remodeled and expanded...then was "modernized" a bit.

Kind of fun when I last visited, to drive around and see "House Build 17xx", "House built 18xx", etc, on so many houses.

That's really neat to me. And let's not forget about lack of electricity too!

I know someone that lives in such an old house. They have a super modern kitchen but a very old attic. Going into their attic is like stepping back in time!

Talk to someone in your HR/Payroll department and have them change your status from office based to home based. The company I work for is based in Mass, and field employees living in NH don't pay Mass income tax.

I also remember hearing that Governor Sununu was looking into legal action to prevent Mass from collecting income tax from workers who were in your situation, not sure what became of it.

Lawsuit NH vs MA is in process I guess. Assume I will eventually get a big refund check. Taxation without representation, pretty fundamentally unconstitutional.

The large company I work for refuses to change my witholding. I'm told the state of MA is not allowing it. I don't know the mechanics. I havent set foot in MA since March but I still have to pay MA tax until this lawsuit is resolved I guess.

Very cool! Was your house around in 1775? Or were there houses on the street that were?

My house, no. But the stone wall along the street in my front yard probably was.

I've always heard it called "Taxachusetts".....

And, if your company is a MA company, even if you are working from home, if they left your "butt in the seat" official location as your old MA office/location, that is probably why....even if not a MA company, if they did that, it is probably why.

A lot of the large companies, even before covid, let people work remotely but, in my experience, if they had an official seat for you somewhere, that's where the taxing was viewed to come from. Right now, many are letting people work from home, but consider it "temporary" or, even if permanent, aren't smart enough to make the adjustments needed for the people.

Grew up in Tolland (western part on the CT. state line) now in New York. I try to get back there twice a year to see sister and other family members. The first missionary to India, Gordon Hall, was from there. Tolland is also half way between London and San Francisco.
