2021 Giveaway and Guess the Grade Mystery coin (Winner Announced)
It seems many of us are waiting for grades (or even coins to just be received). Being in the same boat, I thought we'd have some fun and turn it into a mini contest. All you have to do is guess the grade and the coin I am waiting on. The hard part is that you won't have a picture!
The only hint I will provide is that it is a US coin.
Please guess the following:
1. Grade
2. Coin
3. Date
4. Mintmark
Whoever has the most components correct (out of the four above), will win. If there is a tie, I will randomly select one of those people. US addresses only (will include Canada if you want to help cover shipping). I don't know when I will have the answer so this contest may take some time! One guess per person!
The prize is a u1chicago promo slab and something else (to be determined).
The promo slab (both sides pictured below) features a 2014 50 Tenge Sirko (an odd but interesting combo-a Ukrainian fairy tale on a coin issued by Kazakhstan). You can watch the entire story on YouTube in the link below.

Hmmm, I would wager you could easily add a 0 to your estimate!
Keep the guesses going.
Approximately 13,284 = 413(98 + 5*2) .
Estimated by looking at the document which has 98 pages of US numbers,
usually 41 rows x 3 columns per page. And the first 5 pages are copper coins which
have additional numbers for Red and Red Brown.
The true count is probably higher - there are numbers for varieties that don't seem to
be listed in this document (and for rare dates like the 1870-s half dime), plus there are
more pages with copper coins like in the Proof section.
So it might be closer to 14,000 or 15,000?

Browsing the document, you can see the numbers start at 1000 with the 1793 half cent,
and stayed mostly as 4 digits (with some gaps) until the 2001 state quarters.
Since 2005 they have usually been 6 digits.
Colonials are sometimes under 4 digits, but usually 5 or more digits.

That would account for the coin, date & mintmark part of this contest. But then you need to factor in the grade aspect to that. Would that be 13,284*30 = 398,520 different possibilities?
True @Batman23

Once you factor in all the grade possibilities it must be in the hundreds of millions we'll need a brainiac like @jmlanzaf or @CoinJunkie to do the math

Well, if you want a really quick estimate:
225 years of coinage.
Average number of denominations per year: about 8.
Average number of mints for each denomination: about 2
Possible grades for each denomination: about 20, maybe 25 if we include proofs.
It's only 90,000 possibilities. Keep Guessing.
Is that your final answer?
Please guess the following:
1. PR68
2. Doubloon
3. 1878
4. CC
what did I win?!?!?
At least one like and one lol
It's probably a condition rarity like a 1901 Morgan that you're hoping for MS, but will get AU58.
(I hope it's also the DD reverse)
Just got the result ...any final guesses?
You should make it official after posting No More Guesses!😉

I'll call it soon. I'm also waiting on the Trueview to show the coin in all its glory.
Looking forward to the results! When you do post the results please share if the grade was/was not what you expected to receive.

And I’ll call it. I didn’t give much information and yet @CuKevin got it exactly right! What are the odds?
Well in this case, they were pretty good if you assumed it was a relatively common coin and related to some of my prior posts. It is indeed an 1881-S MS 66 Morgan and I will have photos up once available.
@Batman23 you get a shoutout for recalling one of my previous threads! That coin is still sitting and waiting as I decide if I want to pour more funds into it.
@WQuarterFreddie I was expecting a minimum of 66 (just like the grade ended up) but was hoping for either a 66+ or 67. The coin is one of the cleaner 66s I’ve seen and has nice color too. I compared it to a 67 (with CAC) Morgan of the same date that I used to own and this one looked superior (plus has better color).
Well congratulations to the winner!
At least you got a 66! PCGS is tough on grading but in my opinion that is why a PCGS graded coin is worth more than their competitors coins.
Enjoy and thank you for the opportunity to guess😎
I can’t believe of all the possible combinations that I hit it exactly!
Thank you for hosting this contest, it was fun to guess and see what others guessed. Looking forward to seeing the TrueView.
