Can you say Christmas Evil? This guy will be caught, and I hope he gets a long jail sentence.
That's the strangest looking firearm based on the security cam.
Coin company in Tualatin robbed at gunpoint, police say
December 24, 2020
By Maxine Bernstein | The Oregonian/OregonLive
A gunman who robbed a Tualatin coin shop Wednesday fled with five coins worth $7,000, and then sold the coins at a Beaverton coin store for less, police said.
The armed robbery took place at the Local Coin Company at 19354 S.W. Boones Ferry Road around 11:25 a.m., police said.
A man pointed what looked like a silver long-barreled handgun, demanded an employee remove a tray of coins from a glass display case and place it in front of him, according to police.

Unfortunately things will not get any better in the next few years people losing their jobs and their minds.
Not a surprise given the state this occurred in, make dangerous drugs legal, take away protection for business owners, and remove the police from the community can only lead to a rise in violent crime.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Hopefully the shop he sold to will have better photo/video footage of what this guy looks like.
The "gun" looks like something from the old Flash Gordon television show.

At first I thought a flute.
I am not at all sure that the crook will be caught.
Even if he is he will be let go.
Gun looks like a Ruger .22lr semi-auto. A very real firearm.

He should turn himself in so he gets the vaccine sooner.

I agree that the pistol looks like a Ruger Mark IV in either stainless or nickel. The end of the barrel is a bit odd though. Hope they get the guy.
I don't think the "thing at the end of the barrel is actually part of the gun. It appears to be something in the background that just happens to be in the right place to look like it is. It does look like the Ruger Mark IV shown in the photo in this thread.
At first I thought it looked like a compressed air gun, but I'm sure it is a Ruger, probably Ruger Mark IV. Deadly accurate.
I can almost guarantee the gentleman will be caught - he's not the sharpest tool...
Hope they catch him. Luckily for him he didn't try this in Florida.. He'd get shot. My LCS in Cali has bad security compared to my LCS in Florida.... (IE no gun/you can enter and leave when u want)
All employees of my local B&M store carry openly. Its been there for decades. Never robbed.
My folks were held up in their Baltimore City clothing store in '82. Guy had a gun to my Mom's head. He started to aim at my dad. My father shot and killed him. Bummer this dirtbag wasn't taken out so he couldn't do this to someone else.
Hope they catch the scum. Glad no innocents were hurt.
Long barrel Mk II or IV.
Going back and looking again, it appears to be a door knob of the passage in the background.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
You're right. Awesome observation. Standard length bbl stainless MK II or IV.
the last couple times I sold to a coin store, they tool information from my drivers license, wrote a receipt and paid with a check - what do they require in Oregon?

HOPEFULLY.................. the robber will be caught, and have to _ _PAY THE PIPER!!__
(sorry for that one.....)
Can we agree the perpetrator is no gentleman ? I don't want to judge anyone, but it seems a gentleman wouldn't be pointing a gun at a person working behind a counter

Maybe a bull barrel to?
All I'm gonna say is find and follow the contact DNA. Peace Roy

Dumbass. He should have sent the coins to CAC before he resold them. I swear, don’t people realize that yet??
Yep... A Ruger .22..... This guy will be caught... vehicle description...likely some pictures from the second coin shop... However, in Oregon, he will walk. Cheers, RickO
Walk to the next coin shop and do it again.
My first thought was a gun with a big dart in the barrel.
The owner of the store that got robbed needs to get a better security camera, and more of them. I own $25 - $100 security cameras and they have far sharper images.
This past wed before christmas, (i closed xmas eve)I had two guys call up from SC, said they had some coins, they would be arriving just shortly after 5. I close at 5, said can you send me some pics to see if it is worth your time coming up, they sort of did/. I asked a customer of mine to stick around until they got there, they came in with a hand full of junk, then kept going back to the car several times, I finally told them I had to go , and left. Had an erie feeling about them. Like they were waiting for a time to pull out a gun or something, but being they were two of us, maybe they didnt get the chance.
I forwarded this up to a dealer (ex-Beaverton Coin) for his opinion . . . .
He hadn't seen anything at all in the local news . . . . . . and he has been in the business for 40 years . . . . knows all the OR guys.
Maybe it is just slow to get local . . . .

Hope that they get this guy.
Major media suppresses much of this, it does not fit the narrative of how great things are.

Mandatory hold periods of at least two weeks for buyers of pms and numismatics help.
Must be nice to have two coin shops that close.
Of course the mandatory mask law means the perpetrator could cover his face at both locations. Looks like store #2 is out $5,400, while store #1 will get their coins back.

wonder what the odds are on this thief being a forum member — steals 5 coins? sounds like an experienced collector who knew what they were going for
It's very easy for me to say this (not being there) but coins like that don't roll into a shop very often.
I would be, at the least, very suspicious.
Pete
At first I thought you were trying to be funny. But in case not, extremely slim. This forum represents a very small percentage of “experienced collectors”. Never mind, that the vast majority of members don’t live in that area.
Maybe the robber just took gold coins and/or perhaps he left other, more valuable coins in the shop because he didn’t know better or because they weren’t in view.

Do you have specifics regarding what the coins were? If not, I don’t understand what’s so unusual about 5 coins with a total value of roughly $7000 in a coin shop.

If that happened in my area, they would have sold them to a different store but the same owner

It appears to be an integrally suppressed (modified) .22 Ruger. A popular assassin's gun.
About as loud as snapping your fingers.
Very good instinctive pointers w/ fast follow-up shots.
Great for engaging multiple targets.
His posture suggests he was prepared for someone to attempt to defend themselves.

The proper answer in this situation is "yes sir"

Appears to be a homemade suppressor.
Completely agree with "yes sir" when somebody has the draw on you. Doesn't matter if you're a nth degree martial arts black belt.
They will find this creep and i don't think it will take too long.
"Gun" looks like a type of pellet/bb gun that Sears used to sell in late 50's/60's- they were 22 caliber pellets used in target shooting (probably why the long barrel) - they were popular back then.

The suspect removed five coins valued at $7,000 and fled the scene in a black early 2000’s Chevrolet Silverado pickup which is depicted below. The pickup also has a bed cap with a curved end. The bed cap is missing the rear window. After the robbery, the suspect responded to Harry’s Coin shop located at 9214 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy, Beaverton, and sold the coins for $5,497.

Man, what a drag. Knucklehead.
I’ve only sold coins (bullion) a few times at my favorite local shop. 5K-ish transactions. Even though they ‘sort of’ know me, they made a copy of my drivers license, and had me sign the receipt. I asked why they do this and they said numerous times the police show up two hours later asking if they recently purchased ‘X’. ‘X’ gets taken away by the cops, as evidence, and the dealer is hosed. At least having a photo ID gives the dealer a shot at recovering some funds.
Dave
If the thief had any brains after selling the coins to the 2nd shop with cash in hand he would have pulled his weapon and demanded his coins back and then robbed the 2nd store,,,,,,,
