Definitely long overdue. They consistently sell for $850+
Some, yes, consistently, no. I’ve seen a number of them bring less than $800.
To Mark’s point, most of the MS64+ coins have traded at public auction in the $800s this year! With a PG value only $100 higher than an MS64, the coin to buy though is an MS64+ specimen for collectors on an $850-$900 budget, especially with the nice price % jump to MS65.

It is a nice coin, I should have acquired one years ago. As the song goes... "Regrets, I had a few, but then again, too few to mention..." Salute to Sinatra 'I did it my way'. Cheers, RickO
This may not have come into play with the PCGS Price Guide value increase on this coin, but PCGS just hired Mark Ferguson as their Senior pricing guide person. Mark is one of the most experienced people in the industry with coin pricing data analytics.
Although coins are not commodities, and pricing varies from coin to coin in the same grade with eye appeal differences being very important, I would think that over time we will see changes in the PCGS Price Guide in the direction of trying to get “more accuracy”. That’s a very tough job, since pricing varies for the very same coin via auction, private sale from a dealer, and eBay asking prices.
A day without fine wine and working on your coin collection is like a day without sunshine!!!

I was happy to see the hammer on this one.

Edited for better screenshot
Why, was it yours? It appears that someone thought it had a shot to grade 65.
