thought they might be sized to help illustrate relative density as well, but the gold cube would need to be twice as massive to equal mass of silver cube - interesting bit of history - thanks for posting

Not sure what the rational would have been.
the silver cube would be 0.78 oz t
the gold cube would be 0.03 oz t
??

Perhaps illustrating relative value. The mass of silver in the one cube is about 20x the mass of gold in the other.

Weird request.... Well, without knowing the rationale behind it, it sounds weird. Might have had good logic behind it. Cheers, RickO
A 'statistical column'
They were promoting the "South"
I suspect they were arranging 'scale' cubes of the different mining products to show the relative quantities of product produced.
Sort of like a bar graph.
Just a thought.

That is about the weight of silver in a dollar at the time. The gold is a bit light for a dollar though.
The eyes of the nation and the world were on Atlanta in 1895 as the growing city displayed its economic resurgence following the devastation of the Civil War.

The arts and government exposition buildings flank the carillon, 1895. The granite steps and the lake, Clara Meer, are the only surviving features on the site of today’s Piedmont Park and Atlanta Botanical Gardens.

Good stuff! I see you noticed a batch of 1895 correspondence just "dropped" on NNP.
I agree that the dimensions are such that they show comparative mining production and have nothing to do with value or density.
