Attached is an image of a 1918D Quarter that is straight graded as an AU 50. Would you consider this to be a full head?

    I do not believe they put FH on quarters that are below MS60

    Yes, they do, especially Type I Standing Liberty quarter which has grades as low as AU50 in FH, Type II as well.

    Kinda looks like it could be but hard to tell from the pics.
    Also looks like 3 yards of dirt obscuring the luster and limiting the grade.

    MS66 taste on an MS63 budget.

    Overall a very well struck specimen. The details on the shield are still quite sharp. I’m guessing it was FH when it was new. And it may be a tad bit under graded for the details, as clarkbar alluded to.

    Difficult to tell from that picture.... What I can see, says it is not FH....Generally, a low AU coin...Cheers, RickO

    A very nice looking original coin. Enjoy it as it is and don't worry about some else's opinion as to FH or not. It is properly graded as AU50.

    They don't get much fuller than that. And that is not 10 points worth of wear, its 5-8 points worth of dirt occluding the luster.

    I didn't post this as a GTG post. Again, is it FH or not. According to Pop Reports at PCGS they have graded two as AU50FH and seven as 53FH. I think they missed the FH with this coin. I do disagree with the grade on this coin. Almost every AU 50 SLQ I have seen are washed out coins with a seriously worn leg on liberty. I usually avoid them. Because of the diminished luster on this coin, as a result of a serious case of originality (dirt), I would have graded it AU 53FH and perhaps AU 55FH on the right day. It is what it is and I like it just fine for my PCGS Registry Set. I snatched it up from Brian Greer when it appeared on his website years ago. Dipped out AU coins in PCGS plastic are a dime a dozen. Originality is scarce. Collect what you like and ignore the numbers. just sayin...mh

    Just to reiterate, that is 100% a FH.

    my 2 cents - I would have conserved both of those slq prior to submitting, not a dip but removed the dirt, coins like that have nice original luster under them.

    Regardless, its a beauty and if you paid AU50 not FH price for that you got a steal. JMO
