Your 2021 Collecting Goals/Resolutions

TurtleCatTurtleCat Posts: 4,628 ✭✭✭✭✭

As we look into 2021, what are your goals or resolutions for the new year?

For me, I'm going to winnow out my slab collection some more in trades for gold dollars as I've settled on that series as my collecting goal. Specifically get at least one of the remaining branch mints I haven't already gotten (have P, C, and D coming soon). I'm also going to unload a bit more bulk silver.

My main numismatic goal for 2021 is to read, Read, READ!! Over the past couple years I've gotten something like 8 coin books, none of which I've started to read yet. Shame on me! I have lots to learn, and have to get to those books! And, it wouldn't hurt me to re-read some of the ones I've already read, also!

Second numismatic goal is to practice coin macro photography. I have a DSLR, macro lens and copy stand w/ adjustable lighting. I can take decent pics, but I want to get better and get my system down. I just have to find/make time to practice, seek advice, and practice more! While I'm doing that, I'll work on analyzing the coins in more depth (e.g. look for VAMs, varieties, etc.) - something I've not done much of in the past.

Third numismatic goal is to make some trips to the vault and dig out my coins in batches and get them entered into my coin software ("Exact Change"), until I'm finished with that exercise. For some, I will photograph them, also. For the stuff I don't intend to keep, I will organize and group in anticipation of selling, some day.

    Rocking my "shiny-object-syndrome"!!!

I hope to focus on fewer "quality" type pieces and less on accumulating any little thing that catches my eye.
It's tough when, as a collector, you genuinely appreciate so many different coins with eye appeal and degree of circulation.

I hope to get a PCGS Orange Box. No luck in 2020 so far, but I still have hope :)

Buy no more coins until I complete getting what I already have graded. Use BST, for the first time to sell the coins I have acquired but are not core to my collection so as to upgrade where possible.

I think you can request it. Or buy one of those basketball commems and get it certified to get one.

I am a simple man, keep working on my $5 Indian MS date set and my CC Morgan dollar set. I will focus more on the gold set, but at least in my life it seems when I am not looking for something that is usually when I find it so my Morgan set will be growing more than the gold haha.

Successful transactions with: Lakesammman, jimineez1, Flackthat, PerryHall, bidask, bccox, TwistedArrow1962, free_spirit, alexerca, scooter25, FHC, tnspro, mcarney1173, moursund, and SurfinxHI (6 times)

I never make New Year Resolutions. It has always been my philosophy, that if it is worth doing, I do it right away. I will move from 2020 to 2021 without a ripple of difference - except I will likely write the wrong date for about a week... :D;) Cheers, RickO

Two primary numismatic goals for 2021:

    1. Finish my Indian Head quarter eagle set: Only need 1926 and 1928
    2. Make progress on my pre-1933 US Gold type set: still need both $10 pieces; a Type 2 $1; and the Liberty $20.

I need to figure out if I am really going to spend 12k on a 1909o Indian. I guess I rather have it than a 1916 quarter and I need it for my O mint gold set but I can't help but have the coin lose every time I put it next to the pile of cash. Most are ugly in that price range too.

Just like 2020 I have no 2021 numismatic goals, I may in fact buy even less than I did in 2020, and that was very little.

I haven’t really done New Years resolutions, either. And I haven’t really had any goals for my collection so this is the first time for me to have one. It just happens to be falling at this time of year. Still, it is interesting to reflect on where you want to be with your collection.
