What makes you think that the $200 2020 version is going to be a big mover?

um, I dont? 🤔 I'm not the one offering people money for pre-committments

    duh

Then I'm not sure why you are criticizing a company for paying over the issue price to fill their inventory.

doesn't look like a quick sellout. more than an hour after availability and still available at the mint.

You can LOL all you want, but you criticized BM for offering $20 over when they were going to make "thousands" and then when I questioned how hot this set is, and where the "thousands" were going to come from, you said you don't think this set will be hot. Which is it? Is BM over-paying or under-paying?

    January 19th, 2021 still available. ;)

I just looked at the December 29th, 2019 sales report. They had only sold 46,000 by then.

The only thing that made me think the limited edition set might sell out before EOY (and it was a long shot anyway) is the current silver hoarding plus the extra attention on the 2020 S SAE. Otherwise I’d think it would follow the pattern of all of the prior sets with the exception of the 2017 with the special SAE.

If you know who is hoarding silver at $73 per ounce, please give them my contact information.

    ...these are bunk...I just bought 2 ;)

I personally would not buy it, it’s limited edition presentation, but the coins are not limited in Mintage.

Mint has reported the 2020 LESPS has sold 39286/50000. A little higher paced than some of the previous years. Perhaps it will reach the close to 50000 mark earlier than last year’s set?

Funny how they're doing it. I ordered within 2 minutes, they confirmed the order and charged my card but haven't even shipped it yet.

pretty nice overall - super clean/deep fields, p good relief areas overall

only thing that caught my eye was that both of my samoa qtrs had the exact same line in washington's forehead --- coin 1 & 2 below --- is this from a shaving on the die?

  • Options
    TurtleCatTurtleCat Posts: 4,595 ✭✭✭✭✭

Could be, or a problem on the master die. Whenever I get my LESPS, I’ll take a look for it.

I seem to recall that they use a laser now to create the frost part on the proofs. Maybe a laser problem?

Well, I got mine today. As I was picking out the dime to look I found the capsule wasn’t sealed at all and the dime popped into my hands. :anguished: I rinsed it as quickly as I could in some acetone just in case but noticed a bit of haze on the obverse. It may have already been there, though, since I didn’t get to really see it before it popped out. Oh well, win some and lose some...

Oh, I looked and my Samoan quarter does not show that mark on the forehead.

Maybe a light scratch or something. Maybe a hair or something was on it when they did the frosting. Something like that.

Maybe it's a new category of errors: "frosted through" ;)

The odd part is that two different dies at two different mint locations are required in order to strike and produce a P and a D quarter right?

This was a proof set, wasn't it? I'm assuming it was two different sets from the same Mint.

LOL. It was simpler when there weren't 12 different sets in 12 different packagings and 2 or 3 different metal compositions.

If you still want one, the set is still available at the U.S. Mint.

I think it is extremely expensive for what you get!
