I was essentially commissioned to sell this piece for the previous owner back about 4 months ago.

They had no idea what it was--but I did :D

Unfortunately, even though I LOVE rare and early old bullion, this one just didn't speak to me. And keeping her would have meant I'd be underwater for...well, forever.

So it went on to the next guy.

You pick up anything cool lately?

    $400. I've seen examples go for nearly twice that, but I was under pretty strict orders to get what I got as fast as I could.

    I've had the later Foster pieces, which are cool. But these are sick rare and arguably the most sought-after 1 ounce silver bars out there. I bet @cmanbb knows the scoop.

    allengelhard estimates there were fewer than 25 made of these "Type 2" bars, including those with and without the word "DEAK" stamped on the back and those with or without the star stamp. You gotta figure if there were maybe 8 of each of type made, and they were made 50 years ago, could there be more than 1 or 2 survivors like this one? It's a miracle this one exists.

    Had 4 people email me frantically after I sold it asking if I had more. As if! :D

    Shocked the hell out of me when they pulled it out of an older collection. I bet my mouth dropped a foot :D

    On the other hand: Of all of the bullion pieces out there, these seem like they'd be incredibly easy to fake.
    If ever there was a need for PCGS to begin slabbing these older bars, it's for these pieces.

    The slabbing of vintage silver and gold bars has been kicked around within the vintage collectors circle for some time, but not much has materialized.
