1873 Indian Cent - MPD within the denticles?

Now that this auction is over, and I did not participate other than a spectator, do you think that this is a Misplaced Digit within the denticles, circled in black? It appears to have the upper curvature of the 8 or 3, although it is not listed in the CPG or I might have bid on it. It is probably within the Snow Book ( @EagleEye ), but I have not yet acquired them...potential Christmas gift I have been advised. Does anyone have any opinions on this variety?

Question, does it really matter? IMO when you need an electron microscope ignorer to possibly see something that might be there and might not then maybe it isn't worth the trouble, just saying.

i'll vote no. just based on experience for mpd in denticles in a few different series, they are usually quite obvious to the trained eye and this doesn't ring true. especially with such amazing images. a nice 73 in any event.

I am also voting "no", usually there will be a little distortion of the denticles from the punch, and on your coin the mark in question seems to ride above them without impacting them at all. I think it is a deep die scratch or abrasion and not a digit.

My vote is yes.

Doesnt appear to be a gouge to me. also, it's on both sides of the denticle.

i may change my vote. that black circle distracted me and i now see something between 2 dentils.

MPDs can be very plain when they are located in the field!
There are some relatively strong MPDs within the dentils on some dies, too.
When they are smaller, they are more difficult to distinguish as parts of digits
and could be from other types of impact on the die (die gouge, die scratch, etc.)
