I don't see anything particularly "amazing" about it from the photos. It's an untoned example of a rather common coin, even at that grade level. I don't mean to rain on anybody's parade, just calling it as I see it.

I am a bit distressed and distracted by the insert.

It's a pretty coin - I like the ray-like striations in the fields. There is a term for that, I'm sure, I just don't recall what it is.

I have to agree here. A merc in 68 should be nice in the sense that it's a high grade, but there are enough of them out there that I think amazing would be at least nearly cameo or have some colorful toning. There are a few of those, and they're spectacular.

On the plus side there is no carbon spot.

Certainly a nice dime, however, I agree with Al, in that range of grade and price, I would expect at least CAM - for MY money anyway....Cheers, RickO

Rick, your expectation isn’t realistic. Even at the next grade lower, a Cameo-designated example would probably sell for more than double the price of the subject coin.

@MFeld .... Thanks Mark, I did not do the research prior to the comment....just felt that way based on the picture. Cheers, RickO

The pop at NGC is 92 in 68 and 1 in 68CAM, with no 69s of any sort. There are 46 cams in all grades (mostly 66 and 67), and 2116 no-CAMs (mostly 65-67).

It's very nice, but not 'spectacular'.

A coin I would pass on. I don't like flow lines on proofs from worn dies.

those lines are from metal flow and show LDS stress, too many coins struck from that obverse die. while it may in fact be clean and graded high by NGC I am firmly in the "not for me" crowd, especially after seeing the images at the cert check page. at that grade and price I would want watery mirrored fields.

I believe the mint calls it the “starburst” effect.
