Winchester with a "penny" sight

My cataloging duties sometimes migrate over into firearms and this morning I was searching the web for comparable Model 1873 Winchesters on which to base estimates. I ran across this one which mentioned that an 1857 "penny" had been used to replace a missing front sight. Excited to see this tougher date Large Cent used in this fashion I scrolled down to check out the images. Not a "penny" at all....

Interesting use of a coin... but coins were used for different applications back in the day... even nailed over doors for good luck (welcoming money IN).... and pie crust trimmers (Charmy has several). In more modern times as fuses and to keep corrosion from car battery terminals. Cheers, RickO
Pretty darn cool. I would be a buyer, only thing is , we know it cannot be original to the gun/rifle.
The 1873 Winchester shot so well it didn't even need a front sight.
That's great. Real history.
Hey, why not? That's pretty cool. 19th century Winchesters are cool.
Not a penny.
