The article says the new designs will debut mid-year, so I wonder if there will be two types to get next year.

Edit: Sorry, duplicate thread. Didn't see the other one first. :s

I honestly don't care for either of them.

I saw the earlier thread, and now I am even more convinced, that what is pictured is not the final iteration of the design. And certainly will appear different once rendered in metals. Cheers, RickO

I would like to see design flourish on the exergue on both sides. I think blank backgrounds are bland, dull and weaken the coin. IMO. Peace Roy

If that is the new design it’s a step backwards. Bland.

I know this may be jumping the gun a little, but I'm curious as to how the two types of Silver Eagles will be named by numismatists, price guides, etc. For example, 1986 - 2020 ASE's, will they be called the "Heraldic Eagle Reverse", or....

Well, we already have a Flying Eagle Dollar - the Gobrecht Dollar. In keeping with designer last names, we can call the new Flying Eagle Dollar the Damstra Dollar.

So the older reverse is to be called the Mercanti Dollar?

Well, we do also have the Morgan Dollar and Barber Half Dollar so why not? And of course the Flying Eagle $20 coin uses the designer's last name as well, as it's called the St. Gaudens Double Eagle.

I've seen it called "the family of eagles" several times.

Unless, of course, the Mint goofs and you get the rare 2021 mule with the old reverse. :)

I have the same problem. They introduced the uncirculated S mint parks quarters two years into the program 😵

Interestingly, over at news.coinupdate.com an article on the recent release of the 2020-S ASE proof referred to it as having the Heraldic Eagle reverse.
