I just completed my Dad’s Lincoln set

My Dad was collecting Lincoln’s since I don’t know when. He died Christmas Day in 2008. I took his album and started updating/upgrading as I went along. About 2 weeks ago, I saw an on-line auction with a large amount of Lincoln’s and bought it for $250. When it arrived, the box was 2 foot by 2 foot and heavy. The only coin I wanted was the 1922 no D slabbed by Pcgs in fine condition with environment damage. It looks good to me, since several of his coins were lower graded and raw. I bought the 09-S VDB from Moondoggy years ago with nice toning. It was almost only Lincoln’s except for the 1959 mint set. I also got a set of proofs from 1950-1964 in a lucite holder. Plus many books to go thru for upgrades and errors, etc. I’ll share some photos, but if I shared all of them, I’d be shot

--- If it should happen I die and leave this world and you want to remember me. Please only remember my opening Sig Line.I inherited my father's Indian cent collection when I was 11 years old. My father was born in 1902 and he assembled his set out of coins he found in circulation. In his set were very nice examples of the 1908 @ 1909-s coins. But the 1877 was hard to find in about 1920 +/- as were some of the 1860's dates. All were coins taken from circulation much like I did when I started collecting coins.
I decided to not add to his set with coins bought from dealers, and instead keep it as a tribute to what he accomplished finding coins in circulation around 1920 +/-, Instead I assembled a collection of Indian Head Cents in his memory that are al in proof condition, and is third in the Basic IHC PR Registry (Paha Sapa Indians) . While I might consider selling my Proof Indian set, I will never sell my father's incomplete set as it represents his effort to collect the coins solely out of circulation.
I totally respect your decision to complete your father's set and I am sure that he would have wanted it to be that way. Our inherited collections have proved to be of great joy and connection to our ancestors. Without them, we may have never experienced the joys of our hobby.

Nice sentiment and collection. I still have a couple of coins my Dad had.... He was not a coin collector as we define it. But he would save odd ball or special coins.... A few Morgans and a couple of large silver German coins. I will likely pass them on to one of my daughters. Cheers, RickO
You've done a great job. Dad would be super proud of you!
We all appreciate your pics and zeal.
Keep in touch.

Your dad would be proud. I hope my kids say, wow dad had some nice coins, right before they sell em.
Absolutely a nice collection!
Way to go!
Great tribute to your dad.
I'm sure he'd be proud.

A great tribute and many many hours of fun. Good on you.
Nice collection! Nice job!
6 months before my own father passed away, he wanted me to stop by the house ( I was 41 at the time, 64 now ) When I walked in, his entire collection was sitting on the dining room table. I must add here that he started my collecting journey when I was 8 years old. 1st thing he said was " Take it home with you " Mom passed away the month before and he knew the end was near. Nothing I could say to change his mind. I and my siblings are convinced, he died of a broken heart.
I could never bring myself to sell any of his collection. I consider my own collection a continuation of his legacy.
That is a great tribute to your dad, that I'm sure brings back some great memories for you.
Thanks for sharing it.
