COIN SALES ISSUE ON EBAY - ADVICE SOUGHT

I have sold about 100 coin items on eBay over the past few months. Everything has gone very smoothly...quick payments from auction winners and quick shipping...all positive feedback.

However, a few weeks ago, I had an issue with a buyer. The buyer was unsatisfied and I made it right by him.

Since that time, the two auctions I have posted have been bid by two different eBay members, both with very similar user IDs and in both instances, they never paid for the auction. They also failed to communicate as to why there was no payment.

I followed the appropriate protocol for an unpaid item and the final value fee will be reimbursed, so, in the end, no significant problems. Also, I have blocked these bidders from bidding on future auctions.

However, if I place more items up for auction and this activity continues, what advice can you offer me? I sense that this previous buyer is using alternate IDs to bid on my auctions with no intention of paying.

Any advice you can offer would be appreciated.

It does sound like someone with a grudge....Not sure how to handle a situation like this.... Not a seller myself. Lots of others here do sell, so maybe someone can help. Cheers, RickO

What is the feedback rating for the similar user-id's? Do they have zero (or single-digit) feedback ratings? Just trying to "confirm" they are all the same person... Maybe call eBay and let them know about the different user-id's.

You can let them get the non-paid strike against their account. Then also for your listings you can block users with a certain amount of unpaid items within the last year. It might not help you immediately, but it can prevent the same bad user from bidding on other people's listings...

I'd contact Ebay and express your concern. They might be able to determine whether it's valid and if it is, take appropriate action.

ty for one of the VERY few threads where someone had a less than stellar ebay trans and didn't blow a gasket. in this interesting world we live in, no one gets through unscathed.

well presented, handled and explained. ty!

as a side note; i have had several sales over the years to zero feedback ebayers. i don't recall ever having a problem with them, ironically. even some higher-dollar (to me) trans. since it seems to have gone smooth, i just let it roll figuring i'm ahead of the game all things considered on ebay.

the advice about changing some presets within ebays dark and mysterious catacombs of options, setting up limits for buyers who buy too much from you (is that possible?), too few feedback, too many retractions, unpaid item strikes, can mitigate shenanigans. don't let the pendulum swing too far the other way as unpaid items are probably the least troublesome of ebays few drawbacks.

happy hunting and enjoy your coins.

    Weird, bad luck situation.

Contact eBay and block those other 2. Too strange of a coincidence not to be that lemon there were problems with.

Often you can look at items for sale by a buyer in question, or their feedback that shows description of items sold, to determine their location. This can aid in determining a buyer/bidder in question lives in the same town as your earlier unhappy buyer. If you see active bids from a person in the same town as your unhappy buyer, maybe you can cancel their active bid or even block them from further bidding.

Location of two different ebayers can be used to help determine if they are the same person.
