Ugh is right
By the time the coins authorized by this legislation are all issued there'll be few businesses accepting them.
I can't be the only one who's seen the "Credit Cards Only " signs.

I didn't even know semiquincentennial was a word...
Does it call for new circulating coinage that does not continue with dead presidents?
I am sure that dead presidents will have their dollar in time. expect the dollar coin and spouse coins to be infinite sets.
They didn’t consult with me.
an addendum to commentary on this bill.
they propose medals.
the current crop of medals are brutalized during minting. if they aren't going to treat them ... as they call them "keepsakes" ... then they shouldn't bother. I want to see them come out mark free.
(speaking of mark free ... the P minted 5 oz silvers can come with contact marks. I see them often. this is also an issue to be addressed.)
Me either 😭
Good night. Doesn’t the government have actual problems to deal with?
I read in the past that they did consult collectors I think with surveys and focus groups, and that is how the Mint came up with the youth sports theme (and animals, which is not part of the legislative proposal). The prominent American women part came from Congress.
Is there a vaccine for this?

Yes I have input. Knock it off with this garbage and make a 25 year non-changing design commitment for all denominations with images of Liberty or the American Flag and NO PRESIDENTS or other people.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
they didn't consult me.
perhaps we are the dissent. perhaps the collectors asked were out of touch with the low budget herd.
a survey response can be influenced by the wording. also, perhaps they didn't leave enough time for essay responses.
did the collectors consulted collect for a long number of years? what did they collect?
In 100 to 200 years from now, what will Numismatist think of this. I think we are in the garbage era of Numismatics.
I found the most interesting part of the law, the issuing of fractional silver bullion coins.
Join the fight against Minnesota's unjust coin dealer tax law.
I started with the first state quarters set and presidential dollars. when the new atb came I gave up. too many and now they want more.
this forum has seen "collector fatigue" used in a variety of threads. look at the proof sets. for 2009, the end of the state quarters, it was at 1.48 million. In 1999? 2.54 million.
the 2019? 585,757 as of 9/20/2020
I also do other series. i do the 5 ounce bullion and numismatic 5 ounce silvers. I am glad they are finally done because the issue was enough like the first state quarters. Certainly many more collectors disagree via purchases. However, I would counter with their effort is to spur collecting and interest in coins. The actions being taken are due to collector fatigue.
Additionally, as I mention too many issues, the mint is late to the game with gimmicky privy marks and masses of variety of new issues and even the painted issues. These get sales for sure, however, interest in collecting is swamped out by the cost and oversupply of new issues.
Then what does the mint do? they make issues "hot" like the upcoming AGE with a mintage of only 1945 coins. This does not increase interest in collecting the series. Doing these limited issues crushes collecting an AGE series as only 1945 people can keep a AGE collection going. Plus it leads to consternation when "loads" of items show up on tv or eBay from a single seller. but, acknowledging "loads" is an issue almost impossible to prevent .... outside of minting to demand! That's the easy answer. perhaps, they need better predictions of waffling costs when calculating an issue price. I know it's hard to predict, but OTOH 1945??!!?? how not "for the people" is that??? 1945 issues on the market will have them out of reach for the masses. again, how does that spur collecting the set?
another frequent complaint on here is "don't like the art"
generally speaking the artistic skills of the designers/engravers is criticized.
then there is the subject matter and representation criticisms. are those "can't please everyone" issues or is it more widespread.... I don't know. but on these boards there is more criticism than praise.
consider these criticism types as another form of reducing collector interest.
Retire the Lincoln cent please.
At one point commemorative coins and design changes were special, interesting, and the public took notice.
At this point, with a plethora of issues, it seems actually psychologically debasing...Quite fitting, though because our currency is actually being aggressively debased as well with or without many changes.
Not by accident.
well, I guess there is some confusion? There are 2 commemorations a year... but a plethora of gimmicks now. privy. paint.
"psychologically debasing" so true.
Please senate block it. I don’t want a million commemorative quarters like Canada. They aren’t even for cool things like the parks, I don’t want youth/disabilities sports on coins. I want a standard design or if it has to be commemorative I’d want it to be nature like the ATB.
I have mixed feelings. I’ve been collecting since the 80s. Up until about 1998 we had the same designs for decades and decades and decades
Yes...And the dime.
It would be simpler only having 2 coins and the wait time behind old people would be less.
My Saint Set
A better way to celebrate would be redesigns of coins from the founding years of this country
Eliminate dates, this way you only need one set of dies forever. Kills the hobby, sure, but it is more efficient.
Time for E-Coin releases. Easy for them to vary the grades, attached E-signed numbered COA, super easy for us to get certified, insanely quick to post a real trueview on forum.
Mike Sleazac had said in 2022 the quarters would be "Indigenous Animals of the United States" that would be like a 30 coin run. Guess he was wrong but I would have rather seen that than what they are proposing.
I'm for a change in our coinage. I don't like these extended programs for the quarters and dollars, tho. And no dead presidents PLEASE!
Happy to see infinite variety in my change. No effect on collecting, as my want list is all pre- 1830

At least in 1936 when they had a plethora of commemoratives, they had nice designs.
Lol @ Mike Sleazac! More junk for him to hype on HSN.
All this, in an era when coins are disappearing from commerce and daily use.
Was anyone here actually consulted about this matter, or were any of you part of the focus groups?
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
No, but if they asked any real collector's they'll know they want a static design.
Nothing less than another clandestine attempt at a 'reset' of some sorts.

Retire all dead presidents. Let them stick to bills. Go back to depicting liberty instead.
So a series of two-headed quarters?

There must have been a serious Congressional debate between semiquincentennial and quartermillenial.

Change in our industry is always good thing it creates a value in things that we’ve had in the past that otherwise had no value so I’m a thumbs up for that

These new programs seem hurried and low budget, even though they might not.
Apparently the predicted increases in sales with first class artisans and world class craftmanship will not justify the added expenses.
Might take a person like a Teddy R. to drive home the purpose of the mint as representing the best of American science, industry and art, not to mention the greatest economic engine the world has ever seen.
What I would do is retire all circulating coin denominations except the Quarter. Everything else would be NCLT bullion or commemorative. No one really wants to deal with coins and only begrudgingly deal with quarters.
Seems this has the potential of being a numismatic train wreck without my input or thoughts.
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
Just another example of the rudderless ship we are now on. IMO. Peace Roy

The basic circulating quarter type set is going to be huge!
One thing that could be interesting is that iif these were all tied to states like the Statehood quarters and Innovation dollars, eventually you could have a pretty nice type set by state.
More junk.
