When I was in high school we had a custodian there that had grown up in northern Alabama in one of those company towns with the company store tokens - he reminisced about being ripped off at the company store as a kid. I had never heard of company towns.
I am guessing the Houma Louisiana tokens must have been for a lumber mill.

Cypress trees are very common in Southeast Louisiana. The wood was preferred for building as it does not rot. Not sure if there was a standing mill but they did cut cypress into lumber.
Those company store tokens should remind people of what happens when the wealthy and politically connected powerful are allowed to abuse their employees by not paying them in legal money. The tokens are an interesting, if dark, part of American history.

Interesting, cool tokens.
I know a man from Houma.
He says it was a great place to grow up.
