Liberty trees were symbols for the colonists. Places to meet, organize, and protest.
I think it would make for a great reverse.

IS that a kid hanging from a tree?

That is what I was thinking/seeing too!

Looks like looks like somebody hung in effigy to me.

Knew nothing about this pattern. Really nice. I agree that Dan Carr should make one in gold or silver or both. Much better than the Memorial reverse.

Who owns that plaster model ?

    Dan
I sure hope you can make this. Do you need to have permission from the owner of the plaster? Or can the photos be used to create a die ?

    From the other thread

I would probably only do these if I had access to the plasters.

What an absolutely amazing coin this would have made!

How about the tree as a symbol of quiet strength, power, and dignity?

    I like it!!

The Saint Gaudens cent was no slouch, either. Maybe @dcarr could do a two-coin set?

Yes, that "Saint-cent" would have been wonderful!

Oh yeah ! Wouldn't that be nice to have both issued as a "Could Have Been" set?

Check out this 2 ounce silver round done by intaglio mint. I have one of them, and it is gorgeous!

Thinning down my bookmarks I thought it was time to re-introduce this thread.

    What beauties !

There's no "possibly" about it in my opinion-it IS the most beautiful.

I see some similarities between the Liberty bust on the St Gaudens cent and the one on the Peace dollar.

All of st gaudens faces look the same, from coins and medals to statues. The statue outside the plaza hotel in NYC looks just like the coins face

It reminds me a bit of Fraser’s design for the panama pacific quarter that never came to Fruition .

i wish the US Mint made artistic stuff like this today. All we get today is cr#!*p.

It’s the dead Presidents era, 110yrs and counting. I wish we could end it completely.

Sometimes I think people look a bit to fondly on the seated coinage design, which occupied five denominations. And the shield nickel? 🤢

I had a chance to buy that plaster but it was out of my budget at the time. When I did have the budget and went back to buy it, it had been sold already :(

I can't complain too much because I did manage to get a de Francisci pattern piece.

  • These are beautiful designs. However, what enhances their attractiveness is the much higher relief. If these designs were struck like a modern Lincoln cent, how much of the rich detail they both exhibit as patterns would be lost?
