Question regarding scratched trade dollars

Is there a reason why this coin straight graded and did not end up in a scratched holder?

Dings, but I’ll bet it was close.
Only the graders of the coin could answer that question. From my point of view it is a scratched coin (with very visible scratches) that should have been put in a "genuine" holder.

I surmise that since it has great eye appeal otherwise, is a hard date, and a low population coin, they slid it through. I feel like the coin is scratched though.
$100 says if it was an 75-S (75-P is one of the most rare coins in the trade dollar series), it would have graded details.

Straight graded because they are more lenient on rarer coins. I saw that the 89CC Morgan had many that straight graded that were cleaned when researching about the one I got graded.

Depends on how the light hits those scratches. Straight on direct light may accentuated the marks, tilting in hand may have diminished the perceived flaws. Its a nice coin overall, i have seen it go both ways on numerous occasions.
Well, this one is much, much rarer (Type 1/1), the scratch is on the reverse, and they still dinged it. I agree with Mark - lucky submitter...
Edit: the scratch is clearly intentional and extends across the wing almost to the breast. If it weren't for the part in the field to the left of the wing, it could easily be overlooked.
