It has been almost two years since I sent out a batch to CAC for their opinion, and here are the images for you to say “Exceed” "CAC" or "Not-CAC" to, with a small prize to be given out to the first to guess with the closest match. As per usual, there may be some "head scratchers", but...it is, what it is.

1826 1/2C Classic Head PCGS AU55B

1849/6 9 Over Widely Placed 6 H10C PCGS AU53

1849/6 9 Over Widely Placed 6 H10C PCGS AU55

1849/6 9 Over Widely Placed 6 H10C PCGS MS63

1865 2C O/R Die Clash PCGS MS63BN

1867 5C w/Rays RPD FS-303 PCGS AU53

1892 10C PCGS AU58

1903 1C RPD FS-303 S-7(A) PCGS MS64RB

1908 1C MPD FS-301 S-4 PCGS MS64RB

1943-S 1C PCGS MS67

I will announce the winner and the results when I receive them. In the event of a tie, the member who guessed first will win. The prize will be determined soon.

All nice coins, probably the most likely to get the gold sticker are the low AU grades like 53. But the AU58 super nice toned coin could also fit the bill. Enjoy the hobby!

1826 PCGS AU 58 BN 1/2c – No CAC – spottiness; is that red area in the lower curls a touch of corrosion?

    1849/6 PCGS AU53 H10c - Passed
1849/6 PCGS AU55 H10c – Not CAC – Dipped out circulated coins with spots and scratches
    1849/6 PCGS MS63 H10c – Passed
    1865 PCGS MS63 BN 2c – Passed
    1867 PCGS AU53 5c – Passed
    1892 PCGS AU58 10c – Passed
    1903 PCGS MS64 RB 1c – Not CAC – Rim damage
1908 PCGS MS64 RB 1c – Not CAC – Verdigris over “C” in “AMERICA” on the obverse
1943-S PCGS MS67 1c – Passed – I could honestly see this one going either way. I believe the dark looking area is actually a mint made imperfection and not black crud or contact marks.

This is a first for me as far as submitting to CAC goes: 100% (green) Bean 10 for 10, no Exceeding (Gold). I was really pulling for the 1867 Shield Nickel for the gold.

Congratulations on the results and to lusterlover. @oih82w8: What were you expecting when you submitted these? I'm not saying the coins aren't nice, but a few threw me for a loop.

  • oih82w8oih82w8 Posts: 12,427 ✭✭✭✭✭

@cameonut2011 It is just another opinion, and these submissions usually have some head scratchers. I would not, nor would anyone else for that matter, send in coins that I did not think were not eye appealing for the grade assigned, or presumably better. I was really pulling for the Shield Nickel to bring home the Gold Bean, but apparently ATS thought that it was better (MS61 for a soft strike) than our host assigned (AU53). I am going to sell seven of these, three are keepers. CAC approval should bring a stronger price.
