Can Coin Dealers be Coin Collectors?

    To add, I also think that truly great coins which end up in dealers collections are often those coins which are slightly esoteric, and difficult to price. That experience and ability to value the infrequently seen, but special coins, is a huge asset.

    how do you all know these coins are supposed castoffs?

    how do you all know the dealer is holding on to the best coins?

    how do you know this isn't the best the dealer as to offer at the time?

    I can see that. If they like it but aren't sure how to price it, just keep it and enjoy it.
    As far as competing with dealers goes, I've never had the budget to feel like a dealer would pick a coin I was interested in. Maybe it'll be a concern one day, but even then, it wouldn't bother me.
