    Yup details holder.

    I would think yes.

Does it matter? In a holder or out of a holder, the buyer is either willing to overlook the rim ding or not. A ding like that isn't like AT or Cleaned as a red flag to a buyer. Take a nice looking coin and put it in a cleaned details holder and you've impaired the coin in the marketplace. Put that 1814 in a Genuine - rim damage holder and it probably enhances the value because it is authenticated and everyone can see the rim ding anyway.

Probably get a details grade, but at least authenticated. Cheers, RickO

    Yes, unfortunately.

But it is always a good question to ask with CBH's. Many have what appear to be rim damage but they simply suffered from poor edge lettering (running up the rim).

For reference, here is a Morgan with a rim bump. I reached out to customer service prior to submission and here was their response:

    _Hi Mr. Herring,

There’s a possibility that it would be able to be graded.

Of course the graders must see the coin in hand before being able to make a determination. _

I submitted it and received a straight grade but even this hit was questionable.

I wouldn't have had the slightest doubt about that Morgan. Small rim bumps are usually forgiven.

I don't know where the line is drawn; I suspect there is no hard-and-fast rule and that it is a judgment call. It is also possible that a rim ding isn't bad enough to bodybag the coin but it might effect the coin's grade.
