I purchased an 1882-O in a PCGS old green holder, graded MS64, from a dealer for $103 as part of a small group. Upon reviewing it in hand, something about the mintmark seemed slightly off. As a result, I investigated a bit, to find that it is actually an O/S known as the "Broken S" variety, VAM 5.

I have to say I am pleasantly surprised at the sold results prices. I am not sure what to do with this coin now, as I do not want to lose the OGH unless absolutely necessary.

    Nice score. I don't think the OGH is any reason to not crack this guy out and get him attributed correctly. Just my humble opinion.

    Leave it in The holder then. Looks awesome. Maybe put a small sticker denoting the variety somewhere on the slab.

    Two years ago I decided to put together a date set of Franklin half dollars in ms. I know nothing about the series except that it was a lot of money when I was a kid. The FIRST coin I bought was the Bugs Bunny. I didn't know it at the time. The first and only cherry pick of mine that I know of. BEGINNERS LUCK! Also......the easiest coin project ever to complete.

    My first accidental cherry pick was a Type I ‘56 Proof Franklin. Didn’t even know they existed when I got it. Super fun discovery when I realized it.

    I once went to a show and at this one table, this guy had placed the clear tape from the "brother" labeling co. Believe me, it looked professional! Very well done without paying any premium. But in saying that, my opinion, I'd submit the coin. You know me, I'm submission crazy! Lol.

    Awesome find!
    I'd leave it in the holder. It's an easy VAM to identify. You don't really need TPG to confirm it.

    Always nice to get a surprise in one's coins.... Like suddenly finding a coin one has had for years is a special variety...I found an unattributed AH Kennedy in a slab and also an AH Kennedy I had for a couple of years before I knew about AH coins. Cheers, RickO

    Me, I'd use my p-touch to make a small label with the vam info and stick it on the ogh. Or better yet, what @oih82w8 said. Great find for sure! Peace Roy

    Incidentally, I have a few coins already in OGH with those stickers that I got somewhere. Great idea! I will do that, then.
