Brass 1776 Continental Dollar Copy. Not a Bashlow. Who?

PocketArtPocketArt Posts: 1,335 ✭✭✭✭✭

I bought this crummy copy quite some time ago with the description listed as a Bashlow restrike. It's not...

The detail of wording is so convoluted on piece I almost believe it's intentional? IDK. Any help is appreciated. Just always been curious, and want to document for posterity. I don't believe this is a Gallery Mint piece; their detail is much better.

Thanks!

I've seen these before and I've always been curious abut them, though I don't know anything abut them.

    Anyone have information on these?

I have not a clue but going by that lettering I'd say some kinda middle eastern copy :)

The bitterness of "Poor Quality" is remembered long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

Looks like some Chinese writing which may be a clue as to where it was made.

Looks like gibberish used by someone unfamiliar with our alphabet.

You were a hope to me on deciphering the origin of this piece...Really! I'm just curious of the where, when, and why?

I think @crazyhounddog is right on Middle East Origin. I wasn't sure if Arabic, Hebrew, or Persian script? It's strange. I'd just like "the" story instead of "a" story...for what it's worth if possible? Thanks. :(

I agree - Asian or middle eastern due to the "words". Someone did not understand English.

Older than the current Asian stuff.

I've seen a few of these on ebay. Not sure of the origin of them though. I was thinking pretty recent though.

I think the poor lettering is due to poor image transfer... though the 'copy' is clear enough. No idea where it originated....I doubt if it will be determined. Cheers, RickO

Just a very poor quality replica piece. Who cares where it came from as it belongs in the junk box.

Been around for a few decades. Still a modern replica.

I remember as a kid museums having copies of 1776 coins in the gift shop. Had one for years.
