WoW! While watching YouTube last night (this morning). I came across this coin collector filming his great bank find! He called it, "Epic". that's the perfect word for it! Epic. I seem to have trouble posting things from YouTube to our forum. So sorry guy's. All I can tell you is his name/title. RobsFindsTreasures. Here it is. He found $20 rolls of Kennedys. That's right, not $10 rolls like we normally find in halves. $20 rolls! 40 coins per roll. That's one great find but here's the best part. He found about 70-90 ROLLS! YES. YES!
I think 8 rolls were 1964's and the rest were rolls of 1965,66,67,68 and 69's. Also, it seems to never end. Lol. about $500 worth of $1Silver Certificates, Red Seals/Blue seals of $1's, $2's and $5's. He filmed it live opening most of them (coins). He totaled up all the coins. He came up with a total of about $780 Face. Not counting the paper $. His silver total came to approx. $4600 in Profit alone!!! After his $780 he paid the teller. WoW! Once again guy's . Sorry to not being able to show you. Hopefully, one of you guy's can find the YouTube post? Mannnn! What fun, what excitement and esp. what a PROFIT. What a find. :D<3B):D

Personally, I don't find this appealing, but since you asked, here you go.

One aspect that would be appealing, to me anyway, would be the profit! For $780, you receive over $5400 in return!
Thank You for posting it for me. :)

That would be an amazing find at a bank....I have, on occasion, come across customer rolled half dollars. One roll produced a '43 Walker.... all the rest I purchased over the years have produced no silver and no Franklin halves. Guess I should go to more banks... :D Like every day.... ;) Cheers, RickO

I saw that one. @jmlanzaf he shot video of it inside the bank while he was picking it up. He did say it was likely that someone’s collection was deposited (probably by an heir).

It also seemed that the bank manager and maybe the teller knew the coins were worth more potentially. It brings up the old ethical question: do you tell the person depositing they can get more money for it elsewhere? I think if I were the teller and I understood what was being deposited I would have to tell them against my better greed. If they still deposited, then fair game.

Even though RFT gets the occasional find, I’d be curious what the hourly rate is to get it all. I read in CoinWorld of a person who got an entire Barber quarter and half set through roll searching including all key dates. Likely from the same situation and all at face value. But these are clearly going to be the very, very rare instances.

I have seen some situations where a bank rep told the person to try a coin dealer, and other times the bank reps dont say a word, then cash in themselves.

Last year some family cashed in close to 10k face of mostly 90% and 40%, bank manager got the whole deal.

My grandma in law hoarded several coins and old (and I mean OLD bill) money. The in laws deposited it all at the local bank where they put it in their account and the bank told them the would have to notify the FBI since it was so much. The bank told them to come in next time with less than $9,000 which they did. They got rid of her hoard and the bank never said a word to them.

@bearcave.... Wow... That is sad indeed....While likely no law was broken, I consider it an ethical crime...Cheers, RickO

I wish I had known about it, I probably would have gave them some of the worth on some of the money. No law was broken that I know of, the in laws got regular money for the amount.

A friend told me once about a guy who took a $200 (?) Canadian gold coin to his bank to get U.S. dollars for it. The bank told him he should take it to a coin shop. The coin dealer duly gave him whatever the exchange rate was.

The person who deposited the coins in the bank spent no time or effort to learn if they had any additional value over face value. It was probably just an heir who was anxious to get rid of a relatives hoard of half dollars that "nobody wants anymore".

Knowledge is power but knowledge doesn't come without expenditure of time and effort.

The general population has zero clue about silver coin, old coin, old currency value over face. Especially if it's after a collector passes and doesn't talk about it or leave some notes/instructions for heirs on how to deal with it.

They may be afraid of losing their jobs. Large corporations such as banks may be looking for a good excuse to get rid of long term employees before they have to pay benefits.

Me too. You would think they would and may have. She had the money put up and the in laws just took it to bank. Paper money fromt the 1800's and lots of silver. Don't know if the silver was any good or not.

I watched that one a few weeks ago. Definitely an incredible haul for that guy. In order to keep myself from worrying about what happened to whom, I usually just assume that some young teller took in the coins/cash and didn't even know what they were looking at. Also, some people can't be helped, as some stories here have explained.
We've done some roll hunting, the TVM on it is awful. This guy hit the jackpot because of years of cultivated relationships...and I'll bet his TVM is pretty crummy, too, from a bullion/numismatic standpoint, even with this score. Making good money off the YouTube, though, I'll bet.

The number of coin bags that come in to B&Ms that get sent to the bank is very high. Can only appraise so many ikes and bicentennialS

Nobody brought the subject up of checking for varieties/errors and high graded coins! This would be one of the most exciting part about all this. The lucky guy did show he did cherry pick a few but I'm quite sure he missed many, many more?
The rolls that they came in, ($20) rolls instead of the normal $10 rolls. That's pretty interesting as well. Never heard of these until this video. Does anyone know when they stopped using these? To think, If I walked in the bank and found just ONE of these rolls of $20 halves, I'd be ecstatic! This guy found nearly 100 of them. :o

Q: When does a collector become a numismatist?

A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.

A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.

Actually, he buys boxes regularly and does look for common varieties. Basically he will open a box and pause the recording until there is something to show. There are times when there was nothing to show and he will tell you.

Yeah, no idea on the rolls. I’ve only ever seen $10 rolls even growing up.

I did a lot of this 30 years ago. Most of the good rolls (rolls with 64s, Franklins, and Walkers) we’re from those turned in by customers that that had an older relative pass away. They just took the rolled coins from the estate to the bank without looking at them.
In 10 years I received one of those double rolls and I think I still have the paper somewhere.

I have no problem believing this happened. It’s even more likely if he has a good relationship with the tellers.

    A. Even if they were stolen, there's still a hapless bloke who lost his silver. In that case, he's even more hapless as he didn't even get face value.
    B. Why would a thief: 1. Steal 100 rolls of coins and 2. Risk being seen on camera turning them in at a bank when he could just spend them.
